“Incredible value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2010

Have stayed at Cavalier three times over several years and will be there again Summer, 2010. Rooms are of nice size, clean and comfortable. EnSuite facilities are a bit on the small side but functional. Breakfast ample and of good quality. Location most convenient to York Minster and much more. An excellent value. Price is slightly higher than average but only slightly and it's worth the tiny extra.

On a fairly busy road very close to the city walls and within easy walking distance of The Minster. Lovely sitting-room but the bedrooms were a little tired-looking however they had excellent ensuite facilities. First class English breakfast and a very personable owner who went out of her way to help when an elderrly relative took ill.

I stayed here on business and found it a perfect place with a comfortable room, newly refurbished bathroom, and all the little extras of a higher graded bed and breakfast. The staff were welcoming, and the free wi-fi was a great help.
Breakfast was marvellous - the alternatives to the fried breakfast are many, and I had really good scrambled eggs on toast.
The garage was a squeeze but there is ample on street dedicated parking.
One of the comments about it being a B&B and not a hotel is bizarre - it IS a B&B and doesn't claim to be anything else!
I would recommend this to anyone thinking of visiting York for any reason. You can leave the car and walk everywhere with no problems. The owner was a great help with recommendations for restaurants and bars, and recommended a great bar called Koko's which was handy for a quiet drink, on Goodramgate, only a 5 minute walk away.
This will be my place to stay on business or with my wife for all my trips to York in the future.

This B&B location, room, food and staff all made this stay an absolutely wonderful experience and we can't wait to return.
This was our first time in York and don't think we could have made a better choice.

A quiet hotel come B&B right by the Minster. If you want posh and all mod cons then not for you but if you want small warm and friendly with caring and attention then this one is great. Facilities are limited but what you might expect for the price and grading. Perhaps a bit dated but that is a bit of the charm. Parking is difficult and on street but make sure you ask when you arrive and they will give you a free parking permit for your stay.

Location is perfect and if driving the best advice is park and leave the car and walk everywhere. thehotel is so close to everything it is no problem.

Our room was bijoux (or smallish) but as weonly used it to sleep in (what else?!) does that matter?

What a lovely hotel, the location was perfect, just a very short stroll right into the centre of York. Not sure you could stay any nearer, plus free parking! Nice clean rooms, excellent breakfast and very friendly, helpful staff.

We were visiting York for a weekend break and came away feeling totally refreshed. Thank you Cavalier :-)
