“Lovely Pre Christmas stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

Lovely first impressions provided by welcoming & friendly staff, Warm ambience in lounge, very cosy especially at this time of year. Excellent breakfasts with good choice. Good sized family room although would not class it as Deluxe. Super comfy beds too. Fantastic location with just a short 5 minute walk and you are in the middle of York.. so ideal for Christmas Shopping, sightseeing and nightlife. Ideal for couples or families with children.

Our room was a bit drafty due to old windows but heating cranked up kept the rooms very cosy. Great Shower too to wake you up! Lovely treatment from Restaurant Manager for my Fiances birthday - displaying his birthday banner and giving us prosecco with our breakfast and chocolates in the room for him was a lovely treat too. Would highly recommend and return again soon hopefully.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 51 in one of the annexes directly opposite the reception is very roomy with 2 sing...

In the hussle and bussle of this amazing city, this hidden gem of hotel is amazing! such a great location, team are great...each one of them we met were fantastic! Breakfast was just great, but was a little cold. would of preferred a plated dish rather than self service. Thanks to a previous comment, we saved 10% by booking the hotels website direct and used promo code "happy10". CHEERS!!!

Room Tip: Quote "HAPPY10" on the hotels own website and save 10%. think it can be done over phone to...

Travelled up by train for an overnight break and found this hotel on a booking website. Good deal, but breakfast was extra. The hotel is a lovely collection of buildings one road back from the river, full of character and not your norm bland hotel. The staff were very welcoming, the room (a deluxe) was immaculately clean and light and airy.
The breakfast was of a good standard.

We had had lunch the day of arrival and that was a high standard(they have a new chef recently) and very interesting menu.

This hotel is in a great spot to walk everywhere in York. Make sure you have a parking spot at the hotel with your room as parking in York can be very expensive. Staff were helpful. The Hotel was OK but a little disappointing for the price, mainly the bedroom & bathroom size. Breakfast didn't start until 7.30am so we had to miss out on a full breakfast, as we had to leave by 7.30am, but we were able to go in to the dining room earlier & have cereals & toast. Think there are better choices for this price.

I chose this hotel as the venue for our wedding celebration in October. My husband and I married in York Registry Office then returned to the hotel for a small celebration with our closest family of just 13 guests.

Although the hotel offers a complete wedding package, we wanted something slightly different and had a specific(small!) wedding budget. We liaised with Louise ahead of our day to make our arrangements and all of our expectations were met and exceeded. We enjoyed wonderful mouth-watering canapés in the comfortable lounge area followed by a delicious 3 course dinner in the private dining area.

Our wedding party required several rooms including: superior, deluxe and standard. Within our family we had elderly grandparents and young children staying. This hotel ticked the boxes for everybody. Each room type was found to comfortable and clean with elegant décor. I believe that this hotel is independently owned and if not it certainly had the personalised feel of this. My husband and I were given complimentary upgrades to a superior room for the duration of our stay which we greatly appreciated.

We had the most wonderful relaxed day and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff, service and accommodation provided at this hotel. We intend to return to this hotel very soon.

Room Tip: All rooms which our guests stayed in were wonderful.

Was aware of this hotel but had not stayed before. Very nice room, appeared to have been just refurbished in a bright modern style but consistent with listed building status, in the main old building forming original widows accomodation Helpful staff both at reception and restuarant. Good standard of food, although some breakfast items could have been a little hotter. Overall design of hotel very imaginative.

Room Tip: Ask which building you will be accommodated in as hotel comprises several different ones.

Having previously visited this hotel within husband some possibly four years ago and having had a wonderful experience we decided to come back to do some Xmas shopping. This time I was with my Bessie for a girly weekend. I was pleased to note the car park now had a security bar across the entrance and did not at all mind paying the £10 pn parking. We arrived at 11.15 knowing we couldn't check in till 2.30 so decided to have a latte in the bar area, first mistake, it was cold, we mentioned this and quickly were brought very hot replacements, but we're charged for the same, I felt these could have been complimentary. The bedroom was disappointing, decor wise, lovely and hot, bathroom freezing. Breakfast 1st morning, plenty to choose from, ample coffee, tea and toast however main dishes were Cold, see what this morning brings

Room Tip: Ask for an up to date refurbished room, quiet room, large and sunny, quiet.
