“Quaint and Unique”

Brilliant piece of York history, restored and well maintained. If you visit York you must take a wander and feel the atmosphere.

“Olde Worlde Charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

Despite the heat and the masses of people all trying to amble around the Shambles, it is worth wandering around just to see the gorgeous little buildings. Agree with other contributors that many shops are for 'the tourists' but you don't have to buy anything - window shopping is just as much fun. Well worth a visit.

“Crowded fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

A taste of the olde with a very definite blend of the new commercial world ... the lovely old streets are filled with some interensting shops; the usual tourist paraphernalia but also some excellent shopping.

“Quaint but expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

Probably didn't help that we visited during a mini heatwave, temperatures 30/31c. It was very busy the whole length of The Shambles.
The shops and restaurants that we had a chance to stop at and peruse, seemed very expensive. But I suppose they have a captive audience.
I would think the Chrismas period would be the ideal time to visit when thier Xmas lights are on. Very Chocolate Box look I would imagine.
