Owner description: The Merchant Adventurers’ Hall is one of York’s medieval marvels. Set in beautiful gardens in the heart of historical York, it is open for public use as a museum, wedding and hospitality venue and meeting place some 650 years after construction began in 1357. This stunning timber framed building was constructed by a fraternity made up of York citizens to provide a base for charity, worship and business. Today, as well as being a fascinating accredited museum it is also a scheduled ancient monument and Grade 1 listed building. The Hall is home to many remarkable collections. Including silver, furniture and paintings, which provide a glimpse into the rich history of the Hall and the people associated with it. The Hall also remains the everyday base for the Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York. They invite you to discover the secrets of this unique guild hall and its 650 years of history.

“Don't miss this gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013 via mobile

This is a beautiful gem of a place, giving the history of the Guilds from their beginning to the present day. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing it again after many years. Don't miss the well kept garden too.

“Wedding reception”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Whilst everything was shipped in for the occasion, the hall itself was a perfect setting for a winter wedding. Candle lit, warm and spacious, just a short walk from the church on Pavement.

“A Time Gone By”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

An excellent spot to step back a few hundred years to sample the lifestyle of the Middle Ages. There will be few people here at any time, but it's informative, authentic and part of the core history of York

“Short Detour on York Excursion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We were pleasantly surprised by the hall. Interesting architecture inside and out, and a quiet place to rest for 15 minutes or so before getting back into York's crowds. (Best if used as part of York Pass rather than paying individual entry.)
