“Good facilities and on the doorstep of beautiful york”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2011 via mobile

Good hotel with a nice position about 1.5miles from the centre. Pool and spa are nice and great to unwind. My kids really enjoyed the pool.

Breakfast functional but good selection, tasted good.

Staff very helpful

Only small downside is the car park which gets very full, this might be due to the Xmas parties which were being held, but it was a little tricky to find a space.

All in all a very good choice for York sightseeing weekend.

Have just got back from a lovely weekend at this hotel. We were meeting up with friends and without exception every member of staff we spoke to was polite cheerful and courteous. The rooms were comfortable and clean with an enormous bed. Despite the hotel being very full everything seemed to be in control. Well done.

Stayed at the Marriott for three nights at the end of Novemeber.
The hotel was nice with good facilities but is about 1.5miles from the city walls. It is a nice walk but you do need to get a taxi at night.
The one downside that I had about the saty was the cost of food, drink and internet. The food and drink is expensive for what it is, Prosecco for over £30 etc.
But the biggest issue I have is with the extortionate price of WI-FI access. Even has a guest you have to pay £6 for 1 hour. I presume that the Marriott has lots of business clients who don't care about the price because their boss will pay but for the average person who may only want to use the internet very quickly it is a complete rip-off.

Why do hotels do this? Why not use free WI-FI as a marketing idea? I could go to Macdonalds for free WI-FI.

Anyway apart from that the stay was ok and York is stunning.

The best part - the Spa treatment - lava shells, so worth trying, how relaxing!!! Lovely staff at the Spa.
The rest of the hotel was a bit mixed, the good points - comfortable bed, clean room, decent shower. We were on the third floor. We had one evening meal which was delicious, the main course we both chose was the special which was 'Blade of Beef'. The menu is rather seafood heavy otherwise. Reasonable value for money. The front of house reception staff and concierge (who ordered our taxi) were friendly and welcoming.
Not so good on the breakfasts. Admittedly, we were late-ish on the first morning, and had to wait about 15mins for a breakfast table. The food was plentiful and freshly cooked though. Cutlery and dishes were not particularly clean. The second morning, we were prompt, and we were seated straight away, but oh dear, reheated breakfast food from the previous day I suspect.
And no free WiFi - needs to get up to date with this!
Some of the decor was a little grubby and worn, but overall the hotel was very clean.
I would return though, the good points outweighed the bad, and that Spa treatment......

Just returned from a spa day with girlfriends. A warm welcome, helpful and friendly staff and great beauticians in Kayleigh and Joanne. Plenty of choice for our light lunch, brought to us so we didn't have to get fully dressed. Will be back.

Very nice hotel with great location. The staff were extremely helpfully, and couldn't do enough for us and our baby. The hotel was very clean, we had great views, the room could have been warmer but it wasn't a real issue. We all had a good night sleep on a very comfy bed. The food was fantastic, on time when delivered to the room, and the bar had a nice atmosphere.

We booked this hotel last minute for May Bank holiday & as a travel agent are often able to get agent deals. We paid less than the usual rate & it was a nice hotel, we had two rooms booked and they were lovely, spacious, ultra clean & quiet. There was a little bit of wait on both check in and check out due to queues at the desk but the hotel did appear to be busy due to a wedding party. Staff were friendly & helpful. The hotel has a pool which was small but amicable & also had a jacuzzi which was great for relaxing in. There were several loungers located around the pool for those who want to just chill. It was free parking which was great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone however for those who don't want to have to keep relying on taxis into the town centre then maybe you are better to stay in a more central hotel. The hotel overlooks the race course and has a nice bar and conservatory (usual hotel drinks prices). Would certainly return to this hotel & recommend it for all ages.

Room Tip: High floor, nice view
