“Good Food, friendly service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Couldn't fault the food nor the helpful friendly staff. Hotel handy for the race course and the city centre. Ample parking. Swimming pool. We were staying as a family so were allocated a room right on the top floor. (No lift). The room was a bit low, ceillingwise, and bumped heads occurred frequently. Elderly and infirm would be well advised to request rooms on the lower and ground floors. Loved the breakfast and the dinner.

Room Tip: Top floor was noisy from room next door and rattling of water pipes

Many thanks for your lovely review.
The ceilings are a little lower on the second floor due to the age and style of the building but we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your break in York.
We look forward to welcoming you back.

My partner and I loved the Knavesmire, It was simple to find and has free parking. Most days we would leave the car at the hotel and get a cab into town which was only £5 or so, some people could walk it, but I was wearing heels lol. Our room was nice and cosy with an en suite bathroom. The indoor pool was lovely and it was just the two of us most of the time. I feel it was reasonably priced.

This hotel is beside the racecourse. The car park was quite full and difficult to find a place.
I didn’t find the staff very helpful as they were interested in doing something other than checking me in.
The room was right at the top of the building with a danger of hitting the roof beams. Hardly a window.
Breakfast was passible but cold.
Wouldn’t choose again.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.
We have a ample sized car park for the size of the hotel and we are sorry to learn that you had difficulty parking your car, this does unfortunately happen on a few rare occasions if rooms bring multiple cars.
Due to the age & style of the building the ceilings are a little lower on the top floor, we would of been more than happy to offer you an alternative if it was not to your liking.
Our staff are always highly praised for there service and can only apologise if this was not the impression that your received.
Again our breakfasts also receive high praise and if it had been brought to a staff members attention they would of only been too happy to have replaced the breakfast for you.
Apart from this we hope that you enjoyed your weekend in York.

Myself and my husband stayed for 1 night, as we were attending an evening function at York race course. This hotel had a nice warmth and feel about it. It wasn't pretentious or trying to be something that its not. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We stayed in The Queen Suite which looked as if it had been recently refurbished. It was a massive room, with a lovely open top bath. The hotel was very clean, and breakfast was enjoyable. All in all, we felt we got value for money and enjoyed our stay. We would return!

Courteous and friendly staff who made our stay most welcoming, food and room excellent. Bus stop right outside Manor (8 Mins into City centre)therefore no need to drive once there, brilliant as traffic into city centre very busy and parking fees by the hour. Excellent location - Our room overlooked York Racecourse. Swimming pool great. Could not wish for a better City break and in a Manor House to top it all off. Brilliant - we will be back.

Room Tip: We stayed in a double ensuite overlooking York Race Course - lovely room.

Staff friendly, hotel beds very comfortable, children loved the swimming pool. If you can look past the hotel being in need of some renovation then it is a lovely place to stay with easy access into the city. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order. Would recommend.

Room Tip: ask for Rowntree suite in the attic. Nice and quiet.

Arrived at Knavesmire and was greeted in a nice friendly manner which was a good start. Was given a room overlooking car park which was fine, nicely decorated and provided an extra bed for our four year old which was very comfy as was our bed. Bathrooms could do with some updating and renovating. Only disappointment about room was it was very cold so maybe take a dressing gown, jumper with you. Breakfasts were freshly cooked to order and they also did a good range of cereals and fruit salad with juices also with ample toast/tea and coffee available. Pool was located in an area at bottom of the garden ultimately, needs some updating, pool was cold and not really suitable areas to change, could do with a good updating. Towels could be renewed too for more softer bigger ones. Stayed for dinner on one night, good old english fayre. Very good service, staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely stay all in all, despite a few areas which need updating. Would recommend and will definately return.
