“Great location and friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

Stayed with a group for two nights in May, and came back for another two nights in the beginning of June for simple reason - good location close to the York Minster, and in walking distance to all the key attractions of York such as The Shamble and many good restaurants.

Service is friendly and helpful. The room I had during my first stay was good, quite spacious and close to the lift. My second stay was on a weekend and not sure if this's why the room assigned was not as good, much smaller and a long walk from the lift. The good thing is that they would help take my luggage to the reception when I checked out.

If I am to go to York again, would choose it again.

Room was fine - reasonable size and powerful shower but for the love of god install some air-con as part of your upgrades. It was meltingly hot

Breakfast was a real detraction. Slapdash service with items (butter, milk, etc) nowhere near the table. Also take what seemed like an eternity for the tables to be cleared and orders to be taken. People arriving after us were served first with no thought for those of us kept waiting.

Would return but would demand better brekkie service

Stayed for two nights in April. Given a room in annexe. Room large but dingy dark and depressing and desperately in need of updating. Bathroom massive but unpleasant shower too small and no where to put shower gel, shampoo etc. paid same price as two nights in a Crowne Plaza hotel in Chester and absolutely no comparison. Defiantly felt ripped off

Room Tip: Don't go in annexe and don't expect too much except great location

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2014 via mobile

Stayed at the beginning of May for five nights on business. The hotel is well positioned and close to York city centre and a few minutes from York Cathedral.

Room was clean with all the usual facilities, the only disappointing thing with the room was the whirlpool bath didn't work, this wasn't a major problem but would have been nice.

Breakfast was good if you ate early (07.00) when the breakfast items are plentiful and hot, if you leave it till later it gets very busy and the food is warm.

The restaurant in the evening is Ok but very limited menu and expensive for what you get. Seems to be frequented by customers in their latter years and is very quiet, this is not a criticism just my observation.

There are plenty of really good restaurants within a short walk of the hotel offering various cuisines.

I would stay here again but eat elsewear in the evening.

This hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. The room we had was number 49 in the loft area. In this room the bed was firm and the room spacious. The room areas could do with a bit maintenance in that the windows do not shut easily and the staircase though safe enough was begining to get a bit of a wobble on.

Breakfast was OK, I am glad it was included in the room rate. I would not have paid £12.50 for it if it hadn't been, I would have gone out for Breakfast. We also had a cream tea included which was lovely to both look at and eat. The cream tea was £5.95 which I did think I would pay that for the quality of it and the quiet location. Evening meal on the first night was also included. It was OK but I doubt I would have it again. The pork was a little tough and the mustard mash a little strong, I guess I expected a little more from them.

The location is on the edge of things but we are reasonably fit so once we go our bearings it seemed well located. When I was looking I found all the hotels in York expensive and this was in the middle of those I looked at so I was happy and would go back if I was visiting York.

Just stayed here for bank holiday weekend in group of 8. Excellently located in easy walking distance of the town centre. Room was quite spacious but really was too hot and unable to moderate the temperature plus the window was only partially able to get open. Bar was poorly managed due to lack of staff with drinks overpriced. (Check out the local Burns Inn in Market Street which is very well priced beers). The breakfast was very good with wide variety of choice and tasted delicious. Staff were extremely pleasant and efficient too. Give the Bengal Brasserie a miss. Food is very bland. Overall a good place to stay. Will revisit
