“Great central location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

Firstly York city is a great place to explore, the Hilton is centrally located opposite Clifford's tower and York museum, I had a room overlooking Clifford's tower, the room was clean, spacious and well planned out. The staff obliging and very helpful, a wonderful hotel and city.

There is nothing special about this hotel. We booked a one night stay for a quick break and to celebrate a birthday. However, we were disappointed with the small room but most annoying was the clangs, creaks and bangs of the radiators. This woke us up at 7am and as parents of two young early risers this was a big disappointment! Secondly the room smelled periodically. It was a stale "cigarette smoke" type of smell and we have no idea where it was coming from. It was most unpleasant and other guests reported the same. Wouldn't book again, the premier inn is only a short distance away, book there instead!

My husband and I stayed at the York Hilton to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. On arrival, we were upgraded to a Deluxe Room at the front of the building overlooking Cliffords Tower. Upon arrival in our room we found a half bottle of red wine and glasses waiting for us which was a lovely gesture along with the complimentary upgrade. The guest room is a good size with a reasonably sized bathroom and good strong/hot shower. The main dining room where we took breakfast every morning was absolutely gorgeous! We seriously considered taking an evening meal here too as the ambience was so lovely, although with over 500 restaurants to choose from in York and only 3 nights Dinner to enjoy, we felt we should explore a little further afield on this occasion. Breakfast was a lovely experience, full English with fresh croissants and bread rolls and pain au chocolat in abundance., to name but a few items from the extensive choices on offer. We enjoyed Costa Cappucinos with breakfast as per our request and fresh orange juice which was served at the table. We found the staff to be very helpful and courteous throughout the hotel, particularly the lovely lady cooking the fresh poached eggs in the morning. My only criticisms of this hotel would be : the outside night-time noise which is clearly audible from the guest rooms (all through the night), largely due to drunken party-goers rather than traffic noise. the very hard mattresses on the beds. We had a huge bed which was lovely but so uncomfortable I barely slept all weekend and felt pretty exhausted by Monday evening so that was a shame. Overall I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly for anyone looking for a clean, classy and central hotel in York.

We went for afternoon tea and was really looking forward to it, knowing how nice the Hiltons breakfasts are so we was expecting a treat.
We couldn't of been further wrong it was really poor quality, overly buttered sandwiches (I was peeling the butter out they was that much in) more butter then sandwich fillings. Poor quality tiny piece of cake and a warm soggy bottomed scone, very disappointed would never go back.

Paid £120 for two double rooms so for 4 people that is £30 per person which i think is superb value for the quality of the hotel. The rooms are large, clean and and the beds are very comfy. Bathroom was smart and clean. Can't go wrong really. £17 to park the car but in a very busy city centre where parking is very limited it's not too bad. I would definitely book at this price again.

Upon arrival we had to get them to come and clean the room in particular the body hairs that were in the sink, bath and around the tiles and yes there was plenty!!
We were woken up at 7.15am on the first morning by the crashing and banging of deliveries to the hotel from goods vehicles. The second day we were woken up earlier at 5.00am by the alarm clock that had been set????(not by us!!) got back to sleep to be woken again by deliveries at 7.00am!! There was no complementary water in the room even though this was part of the room deal. The bar staff were very rude when we asked for a refund on a glass of wine which we thought was poor quality she refused and said that was what we ordered ! so we had to get the manager to sort it which he did. On check out we told the manager about the issues and she offered us free parking to compensate us! after a lot of banter she gave us one night free stay and a bottle of water.
NEVER AGAIN!

Stayed two nights, room was slightly small (for 3 people), not uncomfortable just could have been a tad bigger, but location was perfect. Staff were helpful, just not overly. Restaurant was nice even if on the first night we froze because of air condition was not working properly, staff were great, offered hot tea! Next night it was much better and not so cold. Breakfast was good not great, have had better. Didn't think it would be as nice as it was. Would go back.
