“In the heart of York”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

Stayed for 2 nights 1st and
2nd Feb 2013.
Paid £198 for bed and breakfast small double room for 2.
Room 63 , our room was really nice modern and clean. We asked for a room with a view of the minster and what a view we had !!!!
Staff were all very polite to us and valet parking was a great novelty and so easy with no hassle of walking the streets with luggage.
The nearest pub was literally across the street.
Great selection of very nice breakfasts.
Would definitely book again for our next York trip.

We recently stayed here for a family celebration and ate in DCH restaurant. I could not fault it, the staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was some of the best hotel food we have every had. Perfect location for exploring York. No car park on site but valet service for car was very efficient. Would recommend this hotel. If there was just one thing that could be improved it would be a mini bar facility.

I spent a single night at this hotel a few days ago with my girlfriend as a bit of a birthday trip for her and I must say it was delightful. I never usually write reviews so this goes to show exactly how good it was. As soon as we arrived it was all smiles from the off. We arrived a couple of hours early and they were happy to take our bags until check-in time so we could comfortably enjoy York. We were shown up to our room by a very nice porter.
The room was really nice. Comfortable, warm, spacious and with some nice little touches, and there was even a view of the cathedral if you pushed your face right up against the window! The best thing was that it didn't feel like a hotel room. It felt like a really nice spare room at a friend's house. The bathroom was exactly the same.
We then set out for the evening and when we returned, jolly to say the least but also cold and wet we were met with the smiles and charm of Ian, the night porter. He's a stand out member of staff and really looked after us and made us feel really valued.
After a great night's sleep in a wonderfully comfortable bed, we checked out and again were allowed to leave our bags there as our train wasn't for many hours. Overall the experience at this hotel was perfect and I'd like to say thank you to all involved in making just one night feel so special.

I visited the Bistro for afternoon tea with my mother and daughter after it had been recommended by a friend. We booked a table in advance and on arrival we were welcomed by a friendly waitress and shown to a quiet alcove with comfortable leather sofas. The table was already beautifully prepared and we were offered a choice of tea or coffee, my daughter asked if she could have orange juice instead and was assured it would be not be a problem. My daughter chose the chocolate afternoon tea whilst my mum and I opted for the traditional option. The tea arrived promptly and looked amazing!
The Bistro manageress talked us through the sandwiches and wonderful assortments of scones, cakes and tarts (all homemade). Everything tasted as delicious as it looked and we did our best to work our way through the vast assortment in front of us, they certainly don’t scrimp on anything, the sandwiches were generously filled and the cakes were plentiful.
I cannot recommend the Bistro enough, the manageress was knowledgeable and attentive, the surroundings lovely and it was excellent value for money. We will definitely be returning!

We stayed here on Saturday 19th Jan 2013 and can thoroughly recommend this hotel. We had dined there on another occasion and were very impressed,so chose to stay there this weekend with friends. On arrival our car was valet parked by friendly hotel staff. We were given a free upgrade to a four poster room (used our Best Western Loyalty card) which was fabulous and had a great view of York Minster. The sound of the bells from the Minster on Sunday morning was lovely.Breakfast was great and we found all the staff very welcoming and professional. The hotel is central for restaurants, bars and shops. We will certainly stay there again!

Room Tip: Ask for view of Minster

We had planned to stay in another hole in the city but when that turned out not to be what we expected we were fortunate that the Dean Court could take us on for the rest of or stay. We were very well received with a warm and friendly welcome, up graded to a better room with a great view over the entrance to the Minster, and our bags were taken to our room for us.

Breakfast was excellent and we also enjoyed the dinner in the restaurant and the lighter meals available in the bar.

The room was very well appointed, very comfortable bed and bathroom. All the staff were great and always friendly.

It was a great way to celebrate my wife's retirement.

Room Tip: Cannot comment on the swimming pool or fitness centre as we did not visit these. Based literally op...

I stayed here for two nights as I had an appointment in York to avoid the problems with travelling when snow was disrupting the rail network. It is a really nice hotel with very friendly staff. My only gripe was that the bed was only made up with a very thin duvet and even though I asked for an extra blanket (which arrived very promptly) it still felt chilly in my room in the middle of the night when the heating was off. However, I would definitely staff here again but would just make sure that the bedding was better.

Room Tip: I was at the back of the hotel and it was very quiet which was a good thing for me.
