Owner description: York maze is an a-maizing day out for the whole family. The attraction is based around a giant maze, made from maize plants. We open during the school summer holidays,to give families an amazing day out. With over 20 different rides and attractions, the kids will be kept busy for the whole day! York maze also runs halloween events for families in the daytimes, and teenagers and adults at night during the Halloween half term. We finish the year with a huge firework spectacular set to music, on November the 5th every year. When we are not open to the public, we host weddings in our beautiful barn comlex. It's the perfect setting for a rustic wedding!

“Nearly a day's worth of fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

As some other reviews point out, this can be quite expensive for a family, but you can easily spend half a day or more here.

When we visited, the maze wasn't at full height because of the weather over the previous months, so the owners made some of the extra items (mini-golf, for example) free of charge to make up for that. We still had fun in the maze.

You can bring a picnic or buy reasonably good food there.

Thanks for the nice review!! I just wanted to point out to readers of this review that it was carried out in AUGUST 2012 when the wet summer meant that the maze didn't grow to the expected height. As you can imagine, we have had no such trouble this year!!!

“Great day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013 via mobile

We spent the whole day at York Maze & whilst te glorious weather helped to make the day - the fact remains that the attraction itself is also great!! The maze itself was good fun & took about an hour but the remaining attractions were just as good! All in all it was a fab day out & we would definitely visit again!

“Expensive , lots if hidden extras !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

On arrival at the York maze we paid our admission fee of £42 for a family ticket then to be told we would need a pen and a map to get us around the maze at an extra cost. We only bought a pen .
Once in the attraction not everything was included in the price. Quad bikes, remote boats and the water bomb game were an additional cost which I find annoying when you have paid a high entrance fee.
Apart from that ,the kids enjoyed the tractor ride which you will get wet on ( sit at the front to avoid being soaked ) and the house of cornfusion was good.
Food prices were average . The park was clean and tidy and we did have a good day.

Hi Vicky,
Thanks for taking the time to review your visit to York maze. I was glad you all enjoyed your time with us. I was surprised to hear you thought there were too many additional charges, but there are good reasons why we do charge a small amount for some things. Firstly, York maze carries a huge cost burden to operate, and the admission price is set at a level where we hope to cover all our costs, and create enough profit to allow us to invest in new attractions to improve the maze. If we were to include a map, compass and pen within the admission price, this price would need to be higher. As a parent of two young children myself I am always very mindful that we need to try and keep our price accessible to all. Many people choose not to buy a map pack and or a pen, which is fine by us, and allows them to save some money. What you did not mention is that the map packs are fully refundable if returned to the gift shop un-opened!! The reason we charge for the quads and remote control boats is that they are coin operated machines. We also charge £1.50 for a large bucket of water bombs on our water wars game. Again, not everybody wants to get soaked, and it costs a lot to operate, so we take this out of the entry charge.
Overall I would like to think we offer great value for money here at the maze. We carry out regular exit surveys that tell us people spend an average of 5 hours here when they visit us, and that this gives them great value for money. I hope this explanation can help you understand our pricing policy, and that we are not some kind of corporate monster trying to rip our visitors off. At york maze we value each and every visitor, and we try and do all we can to ensure they have an a-maizing day with us!!
