5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013

I stayed here for a couple of days with my mam, dad and older sister from 1st November to 3rd of November, and I can tell you straight away that it's just a brilliant B&B.
Julie and Ian were absolutely great, you could hold a conversation with them as if they were your friends, and they're springer spaniel Leo was amazing. I even bought a bone for Julie to give him just before we left.
Also, the breakfasts were really good, and Julie and Ian's two daughters were just as great as them (one of them is in Year 10 like me, so it was good to speak to someone my age for a bit haha).
Ian even offered to make and wrap up some food for my sister, who missed breakfast on the Sunday, so that she wasn't hungry all day, which was just lovely (and she ate it within 5 minutes too so she must have enjoyed it).
Our room was cute, the beds were really comfortable and it was unbelievably clean (first time I've slept in bunk beds for ages).
It was a nice little stroll into the city centre too, so the location was perfect.
In general, I really don't think anyone can fault this B&B. Thanks a lot for making my first trip to York a wonderful weekend guys and God bless! :')
By the way, tell your daughter (I didn't catch her name) that I said good luck in her GCSEs-especially German hahaha. :)

Room Tip: Just go in any room, you'll enjoy your time in York either way!

We stayed at The Old Vic guest house from 1st to 3rd of November. We stayed in room 2 which is the family room and found it clean and very comfortable with en suite bathroom, tea and coffee facilities and tv. Breakfast was very nice and plenty to choose from. On the whole Julie, Ian and Leo the dog made our stay very and welcoming, Julie and Ian couldn't do enough for us,. We will definitely be returning.

This is our second visit. We recieved a warm welcome from from the owners Julie, Ian and Leo the dog. Our room was fresh clean and comfortable. Tea and coffea making facilities, tv and small on-suite shower room. Breakfast was high quality produce with a good selection of options and staff are friendly and helpful. When we stayed in the summer it was a nice 20min walk by the river into York centre. This time, Autumn, we took the regular bus from the end of the street for £1. and a taxi back after midnight was about £6/£7. Parking outside was plentiful and it was a very busy weekend in York as it was a race weekend. We fully recommend this B and B and we have already booked for our next visit.

Only stayed at the old Vic for one night, but our stay there was fantastic. We were greeted on arrival by Julie and her friendly dog Leo. Our room was clean, warm and comfortable, with en suite ( nice powerful shower) . We were given a front door key, and made our way into York centre. There's a bus stop near by, number 7, 5 mins into town. ( whilst your there try the ghost hunt walk, starting by the shambles)
We enjoyed a quiet comfortable nights sleep, followed by a beautifully cooked, impecabably served breakfast.
At the old Vic, it's seems nothing is too much trouble, and if we stay in York again, we wouldn't stay anywhere else.

We stayed recently and had a lovely time. The rooms were clean and warm with lots of hot water in the shower. Food was excellent with plenty of it! However the real charm of the Old Vic comes from the owners Julie and Ian and their very cute dog Leo. They are so pleasant and helpful - I would definitely recommend staying there.

The B&B was a good 20 minute walk into the town centre or their was a bus service which ran every 7 minutes which was cheap so we caught that. Their are many pubs/restaurants around the B&B that were easy to find. Also Sainsbury's and a pharmacy at the end of the road.

The owners were lovely and very helpful if we needed anything...also welcoming when we arrived. They do have a dog within their B&B but it is extremely friendly and is kept out of the guests bedroom, kitchen/dining area. It was very clean throughout the B&B.
The room we stayed in was quite small but their was enough storage for our bags and the size didn't really affect us. We had complementary tea/coffee and biscuits as we went into our rooms. As we stayed here for two nights are bed was made and room was cleaned. If their was anything that I would complain about within our room it would be the shower due to it not being very powerful and also it kept going hot/cold and didn't seem to stay at a certain temperature. Bed's were comfy and even though we were near the road the noise was very quiet.

Breakfast was really nice and we didn't have any thing to complain about... a wide range of breakfast foods such as; cereal, toast, full breakfast etc.

I'd definitely recommend the B&B and say it is worth it's money!! We would stay their again if we were going into York.

We were given a very warm welcome by Julie and Leo the springer spaniel, at the beginning of our second visit to The Old Vic Guset House. Were were given a stunning room at the front on the first floor. The room and bathroom were both newly refurbished to a very high standard.
We stayed for two nights 20th & 21st September. The breakfasts are beautifully cooked to order and nothing is too much trouble. Hannah & Sophie, who were serving on our visit, are delightful.
The location of the guest house is ideally situated just off the A19. There is adequate on street parking & then the car can be left for the weekend. It is a beautiful 15 minute stroll down the river into the city. Alternatively walking down Fulford Road into the city you will pass The Mason's Arms which I would highly recommend for a beautifully home cooked meal...the portions are enormous!!
We can't wait to returnto The Old Vic Guest House next year & would highly recommend to anyone....what a find!!
