My partner and i stayed here on a Sunday and Monday in June 12. We were allocated the art deco room which was nicely decorated and spacious. The room didn’t have its own ensuite; however the bathroom we were allocated was fine; big with an excellent shower and nice toiletries, so this was no problem whatsoever.
We enjoyed the breakfast which was in a beautiful grand dining room, but one thing we wasn’t keen on was the fact it was served at one large table, meaning first thing in the morning when we was barely awake we felt forced to make small talk with fellow guest. I guess this idea was designed to keep breakfast social, but personally we prefer our own little table. Breakfast itself was very nice and generous and served by pleasant staff that was happy to chat about Whitby. Unlike some other reviewers, we never really met the owners and were not served scones on arrival but we really enjoyed our stay here. The guesthouse is about a ten minute walk into Whitby so is in a good location. We parked for free behind the guesthouse itself.
Regarding Whitby itself, it was my first visit and it was really lovely, plenty of choice for pubs and food. We ate in a pub overlooking the harbour on the first night, and then had the famous Whitby fish and chips on the second night. Whitby has plenty to see and do with lovely quaint narrow cobbled streets and lots of shops to browse in. Another must is a visit to nearby Staithes - we went on the second night and what a quaint little gem it is - absolutely gorgeous! All in all a great mini trip!
