“ok but wouldn't stay again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

First the good points, very nice welcome when I arrived and checked in, all very clean and bright throughout the building. Also ample parking which is required in Whitby.
We only stayed one night and too be fair did only book a small room, however the room on the top floor was indeed tiny!! I am six foot and struggled in the shower. the bed itself filled the room will very little space for anything else. small gripe but the TV channels were all over the place I expect BBC1 on channel 1 etc (petty I know).
Now the not so good points, the mattress in our room was terribly hard and the shower next door woke us up as the walls are either very thin or the shower unit is positioned on the adjoining wall. I cannot remember when we booked whether we were advised that breakfast came to your door in a basket at 8-30am there did not seem to be any options re the time either. Now it's fair to say that when I stay away I do like a cooked breakfast as its something rarely cooked at home. The boiled egg in foil half a French stick with various mini cereal packs did nothing to impress.
I think there will be nicer B&B's in Whitby and I am sure there are worse, we booked on the strength of the review on here as Trip advisor is usually a good guide. I cant help but think that either the owners have changed or they have taken a different business tack!!

Lovely edwardian hotel only 10 minutes from town, beach, restaurants. Boutique style large rooms decorated very nice. We had room 5 which was decorated in lime and brown, large leather bed, sofa and table with two chairs. The continental breakfast delivered to our room at 8.30 each morning was a treat, with lots of choice. We would definately recommend.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 5 which was at the side of the hotel. Was quiet even though on a busy road.

We found the Elford house easily. On entering i thought old, but it is really nice our room No6 was the atic it was wonderful, like new, decor was lovely everything so clean it felt brand new... Breakfast was interesting, delivered in a basket to the room, boiled egg warm bread selection of cereal, yogurts, cereal bars, jam, cheese, we enjoyed it.. we pulled the bed that was under the window out in to the room and put the breakfast table there so we could enjoy the view of Whitby Abbey, perfect start to the day.. Nice stroll down the hill and you are in the centre of Whitby. The house was very quiet felt like we were only people there but i think we took the last room, so we slept really well... I would stay again if we could get that room... Many thank x

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a few of the abbey its lovely. If you are not too fit let them know as lots of...

On the day of travel to Whitby I received a text message from the propiertors enquiring what time I would like to check in (two options were given), which I thought was a useful idea. Having arrived slightly earlier than intended, Ged, the owner, welcomed us into the accommodation and showed us up to our room for the night, which was great - well decorated and impeccably clean, as was the en-suite bathroom. Ample tea and coffee facilities were also provided, and the room came complete with a TV. It's worth noting spacious free parking is available (and unlike other B&Bs were vehicles have to be double-parked).

The continental breakfast to your door is a novel concept which may not suit all but met our needs and allowed for a lay-in. Cereals, boiled eggs, bread rolls, jams, spreads etc were order of the day. A good stay and I would happily return or recommend.

This guest house is possibly the cleanest and most beautifully laid out I've ever stayed in. Our tasteful room had a wooden floor with rug, sleigh bed AND a view across Whitby of the Abbey.

The continental breakfast was just the ticket, warm bread rolls and boiled egg as well as cereal, fruit and yogurt delivered to our room. Clean cutlery and crockery were provided as well as a good amount of tea, coffee and sugar.

Bathroom was immaculate and the towels provided were clean and soft, and the bed was clean and very comfortable. Even has free parking.

I can't wait to go back!

After deciding to fight off the January blues with a quick trip to Whitby (one of our favourite places in the UK), we had a fab stay at Elford Guest House.
Elford Guest house is ideally situated for getting about Whitby and it's surrounding areas such as Sandsend and Robin Hoods Bay. For a late booking we got a lovely double room for £70 on a Saturday night with Ged the owner being very welcoming without being overly fussy.
One lovely concept of Elford Guest House is the continental breakfast which is left outside your door at 8.30am in a cute basket. Containing a boiled egg, warm fresh bread, jams, cheeses, cereals and juice there is enough to keep you going and the variety is excellent. It made a nice change to relax and breakfast in our room before heading out for the day. We would definitely return and recommend to others.

We went to Whitby with friends for a few days around New Year's Eve, and stayed in Elford Guest House. Everyone was really friendly, even when we asked for the wifi key at 11pm. The location was really handy, just a 5 minute walk to the waterside restaurants etc. The room was large and comfortable, and nicely decorated.

The breakfasts were a highlight, with real attention to detail. On New Year's day, we even got a bottle of Buck's Fizz!

Highly recommended, and if we are ever up in Whitby again, I will be staying here.
