We stayed here for one night and found the stay very good, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the Hall a wonderful building. It just looks that little bit special when you turn into the courtyard.
We had room 5 which is at the rear of the building looking out over the Esk valley, it has a wonderful mullion window and is just made for sitting there with a cuppa taking in the view. Our son had room 1 which was a little larger and at the front of the property, he said the room was good and no problems.
Breakfast was spot on, cooked fresh and presented well, plenty of tea/coffee and juices, along with the usual cereals and fruit.
The Hall has a bar and the prices are reasonable, we were the only ones in the bar but given the time of year its not unusual, the bar is not attended all the time, you have to ring a bell for attention, but the owners are quick to appear.
The hosts are a nice couple, very welcoming and nothing appears too much trouble, they took their time to chat and make sure everything was ok.
The Hall is just outside Whitby in a small village called Ruswarp, but it is easily within walking distance for most people, there is a paved trod that runs past the hall, the path follows the Esk valley and it is away from the traffic until you reach whitby, a pleasant walk even if you don't go all the way to whitby,it brings you out at the top of whitby and it took us about 20 minutes to get there, we walked back as well but were told it's about 5 quid by taxi back.
All in all a good place to stay and very welcoming.

  • Liked — The building itself and the owners.
  • Disliked — Nothing really

We stayed for one night at Ruswarp hall, and were absolutely amazed at the value for money. For a measly £30 pp/pn, we stayed in a comfortable room with all necessary amenities, with the most wonderful view of the surrounding scenery. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful throughout. The breakfast was equally wonderful- fruit, cereal, and a cooked breakfast containing whatever you like.

The location was fab- just 1mile wak from Whitby centre.

We intend to stay at Ruswarp again soon- fantastic place. Would definitely recommend.

  • Liked — The stunning views.
  • Disliked — Very minor- the walls could have done with a lick of paint.

We found it to be a good Bed and Breakfast place. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. A very good breakfast
with lots to choose from. The owner was helpful when we left and wanted to walk into Whitby. He gave us explicit details about the way. Would go back again

It is not an hotel - it is a B & B. For a B & B it is very good.

Breakfast is easy - you get what you ask for. Otherwise you get a full english breakfast. We were asked when we arrived what we wanted each morning and got exactly what we ordered. If there was not enough on the plate - you were supplied with a tonge and extra was readily provided. (I hate people who sit through something and complain later.)

Breakfast is rather short 8.30 to 9.30 - though one morning we wanted to leave early and were able to get an earlier time.

The rooms are clean though a little drab. Having seen only one room it is difficult to make a general comment on them. Adequate was a good description. They were cleaned and supplied each day.

The website says that the carpark is limited. This is VERY true. Also the access has very poor visibility.

Even though the website says that there is a bar - there was not any sign of one.

The area is quiet and well located for touring the North Yorkshire Area. Though a 15 minute walk to downtown Whitby seems to beyond most people judging by the distance.

Overall, it is an aged building and in areas it shows it. I have seen a lot worse. Give it a try.

  • Liked — Friendliness, food
  • Disliked — car park

We stayed at the Ruswarp Hall Hotel as an Anniversary Break,
unfortunatley we presumed it would have a Restaurant, it only served breakfast. We had to go out for our meals. We found it to be very dissapointing. It classes itself to be a Hotel when in fact it is a Bed and Breakfast. We have Booked rooms with Late Rooms.com before without any problems. This one Let us down.
