“2 night stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

we are staying in one of the annexes to this hotel, the rooms are quite small but very comfortable, the bathroom is large and airy with a very poweful shower. We arrived in pouring rain to a warm welcome. Breakfast is in a very pleasant room with 2 large fireplaces, my husband had 2 poached eggs on toast and were perfectly cooked I had smoked salmon and the best scrambled eggs ever, the full english breakfast also looked delicious. I would recommend this accomodation I will certainly be coming back

We booked in at short notice, and found this a comfortable , friendly hote. The breakfast was good, and staff very friendly. Would definitely stay here again - it's in the town centre so ideal for restaurants, abbey etc. Sadly did not see any ghosts!

We had stayed here before in one of the famous enormous 4-poster bed rooms, this time was our 18th anniversary, The fantastic staff ensured that we had a memorable occasion! Ask for Karen when you book.

Room Tip: Pay more and stay in the main hotel, not the annexe

Have just come back from an overnight stay here and would thoroughly recommend this hotel. I phoned to book at very short notice using a voucher deal and Pat was extremely helpful in making the arrangements. The deal was for rooms in the Lodge set slightly apart from the main hotel but just as convenient. We were disappointed that we arrived too late for an evening meal but Pat kindly arranged that we could have some soup and a roll if we wished. Our room was delightful - tasteful decor, very clean and with everything we could need. Having arrived in the dark, we couldn't believe the fantastic view of the Abbey that we saw in the morning! Breakfast was taken in the very pleasant dining room in the main hotel and was excellent. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and we look forward to returning for another stay in the future.

Arrived at the Bagdale after a long day and was met with a friendly smile.

I was given a room in the Lodge which is about 100 yards up the hill from the main hotel.
The Lodge appears to be an old mansion house that's been converted in to rooms. The room I had was clean and well kitted out. The bathroom was a bit on the small side but again looked new and was clean.

There's free Wi-Fi in the room.

Top tip, find out where you are staying before you unload the car, check in first. It'll save a bit of time and hassle if you are in the Lodge as it has it's own car park.

There was a good choice of food on the menu and the warm oatie bread was great.

Breakfast didn't start until 8. I had to travel in the morning so I had cereal and fruit but there was plenty of choice of cooked option as well.

Compared to other hotels in the area The Bagdale appears to be very good value. All the staff were friendly and I would stay again if I was in the area.

We stayed using a Groupon deal, which brought the hotel in at a bargain price. We were situated in the slightly cheaper Lodge accommodation, but this was probabaly quieter than the old building, warm and perfectly adequately appointed - our only small quibble was one of the packs of biscuits had already been opened and one taken!!! The breakfast is good, though grapefruit was promised but never materialised and tinned fruit salad doesn't really cut it, more than made up for by astonishing kippers from the local Fortune's smokery and excellent full English or omelettes. Parking is free which always helps in Whitby, but can fill up. All in all, we'd certainly stay again.
