“Room 4 very cute”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

Excellent room with nice touches. Warm, quiet, central. Sat TV and fast wifi. What more do you need? A comfy bed! They've got that covered too! I got such a good deal, they could definitely charge more. Tea and coffee and biscuits etc in room, really good quality toiletries, beautiful yard. Staff very friendly. Will stay again.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 4, which is a small double. But perfectly formed with everything you need. I stay...

We booked two rooms for a short break with friends. The rooms are small but absolutely beautiful. It's a great location with a quiet courtyard to sit. All in all very good value for the price we paid, we are planning a return visit in autumn

We have stayed at the shepherd's purse quite a few times over the years and every stay has been very pleasant and welcoming. Room 2 is our favorite and would recommend it for couples. I have noticed though that the room is getting somewhat tired and needs some money spending on it. The TV was very dated and the shower was broken so water sprayed out the side. I still love staying there and would happily stay again but really think it's time for an update considering the cost per night.

What can I say.... I won't try anywhere else again. As long as a room is free at the Shepherds Purse I will only stay there. In fact I just booked another trip. I can't wait for another whimsical and magical experience. The owners have masses of creativity. I just love the secret garden setting and the glorious shabby chic interior design. We felt warmly welcomed and were certainly well looked after. I can't praise them enough. They put emphasis on quality but make it feel homely all the same. Their shop is a treasure trove. Love it, love it, love it. Thanks Shepards Purse for making our trip so memorable.

Stayed here for my last birthday with my partner. The room we stayed in opened directly onto a very nice courtyard with a small gazebo. Our room was quite small, but it was definitely big enough, and had a lovely atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful, although we didn't require them for anything more than our key, and payment upon leaving. The location was perfect, the rooms are far enough away from the road to be quiet, yet once you leave you are right in the middle of a shopping area.

The standard of the room was excellent, and as shown on web image.

However, the website home page indicated that:

"The rooms are en-suite and have four-poster or brass bedsteads and country furniture, either with a bath or a shower."

This is not correct, as we found out when we arrived. It was pointed out that if we had gone in to greater depth we would have seen that this room was not en-suite. This should not be the case. It should be stated at the first opportunity. No attempt was made for compensation, as it was our fault that we had not seen it.

Whilst the room was spotless, an open bag (blue) of dirty towels remained at the foot of the inner stairs from late Saturday afternoon, until we left on the Sunday morning.

Room Tip: Don't believe the home page. Some rooms are not en-suite.

Paid £70 for the room, which despite having a gorgeous 4 poster bed, was a bit in need of some decorating and quite small. I was extremely irate to find there is no breakfast included in this price. At breakfast in the ajoining cafe i asked for a glass of apple juice, so the woman behind the counter poured me a glass of supermarket vaule apple juice then charged me nearly 2 quid?! Breakfast was also very expensive. Bit disappointing for £70.
