“Fabulous stay, hidden gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

We booked a "murder mystery" weekend stay (Fri/Sat nights).
Pulling up to the hotel surrounded by woodland, hills and the sea was beautiful. the buildings look fairly new, but this did not detract from the surroundings.

The staff are very attentive (Simon (Concierge) & Paul (Barman) are excellent) listening to your every question and exceeding on delivery, we asked for locations for clay pigeon shooting locally and received a 3 page printout of options, this was the same with restaurants and other attractions based on our interests.

We ate a 3 course meal during our stay, which was divine and the theatrical event was great fun.

We would book this hotel again without a second thought, and would recommend it to anyone.

They are dog friendly and also have a "Dog Spa" on site, we did not take our dog with us on this occasion, however after seeing their facilities we will do in the future.

Room Tip: The suite's are amazing!

I very nearly gave the rating as a five, but there's always room for improvement! Have just experienced a great couple of days away here with my partner. The staff are friendly, attentive and nothing seems too much trouble. The hotel and grounds are superb. The spa can get a little crowded at times, but it's well equipped and kept very clean. The food in the restaurant was good, but it was the excellent service and the pleasant surroundings that really made it for us. The room was very comfortable and we felt at home straight away. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a short break away.

Excellent break, the staff are extremely courteous and the rooms very very comfortable. Food in the Poachers Bar was delivered with a smile by a young waitress who was lovely, the steak was cooked to perfection. My facial was luxurious and the spa facilities were wonderful and spotless. This was my THIRD visit and definitely not the last.

We enjoyed a relaxing weekend break at the Raithwaite Hotel. A really warm welcome from reception and this continued throughout our stay. All the staff went out of their way to help and we're extremely polite. Excellent training! The pool and spa area were very nice although not a lot of space around the pool to relax. We ate in the Poachers bar and the food and service were very good. A lovely weekend getaway and we will be returning.

I have to agree with everything said by MarcyNorthyorkshire, my husband booked a spa day as a surprise treat for my 40th, I had a look at the hotel beforehand having previously stayed at another 5 star hotel Rockcliffe I was hoping Raithwaite would be as fantastic...it's wasnt. Very helpful lady on reception who gave us towels and robes (which had seen better days to be fair) and we went to change we were told our treatments were at 12.30 and lunch anytime after 2.30. Changing rooms were disappointing and no times only one locker was free and the socket was hanging off the wall and there were two holes presumably where the mirror had been raised up, spa was very disappointing, nothing more than you would get at a De Vere hotel or even a good premier inn, just a pool jacuzzi sauna and steam, there was a small gym in darkness so were unsure if this could be used. We managed to fill an hour before we got ready for treatments, we were shown to the relaxation room which should have water, fresh fruit, biscuits and herbal teas according to the website but it only had water and two half empty, presumably used glasses. We had Our treatments which were nice but when I found out the cost, very overpriced. I was told they would recommend some products for me but they never and she had covered my hair in oil during a massage so I couldn't leave the product on as I had to shower off before we went for lunch so I think the timings were badly planned by them. I could only use the hairdryer with the broken socket so hoped I wouldn't blow up! We were shown to the poachers bar where waiter asked if we were having afternoon tea, we said we were on a spa day so he returned with a choice of two menus but said none of this was I included in the price however my husband was told the deal included lunch, he went away and came back and said lunch was definitely not included despite paying 'a lot' for the treatments, we argued the fact again and we were asked if we had any confirmation! He disappeared again, now 20 'minutes after our arrival only for him to return and apoligise as he had checked the emails and in fact lunch was included but then proceed to take one of the menus from us ! We ordered drinks and he said they would be on the house, big wow....yet he charged us for refills and it was only a coffee and half a coke! Anyway we ordered, hubby enjoyed his, mine was poached salmon and new potatoes and tasted of very little. Overall very disappointing expensive experience and we will not return, this place is not a patch on Rockliffe Hall. I have complained, had confirmation they will deal with it, still waiting......

Came here 1st time not long after it opened and have been back many times since usually for 1 or 2 night weekend breaks. A few reasons why; firstly and without being an overtly "family" oriented hotel, we've always found it great for our 2 little ones under 4 in that the staff are accommodating and we have never felt out of place when we rock up for dinner usually with both asleep on their strollers or sit in the bar on an evening. Secondly, the hotel standards are pretty good with nice, clean, modern airy rooms where everything works, a great little spa with a nice ambience and an in form chef heading up a decent restaurant set up. Service from all staff is warm and sincere and obviously well led. Only 2 quibbles I would have; the gym should be bigger given recent expansion in number of rooms and most other common areas and also the hotels own website is often undercut by many of the hotel search engines as it can get expensive at weekends.
