“Almost missed Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Phoned on the off chance that Charlie had a room for the weekend, he did , it;s just like going to stay with an old friend, great. I was ww2 weekend loads of people dressed in 1940's clothes.
Cme Sunday morning thought B/fast was 8.30-9.30 wrong 8-9 rolled up at 3 mins to 9 but with there normal way we were given a full b/fast with no trouble at all.
Thanks to all at the Avalon G&C

Room Tip: First floor not as many stairs

This was our second stay at the Avalon. The first one was a couple of years ago shortly after Charlie took over the hotel. Charlie continues to be an extremely helpful and welcoming host. The service he and the team provided was second to none. It's hard to imagine how the personal service could be improved upon. The room was beautiful, refurbished, large, with a walk-in shower and beautiful sea views out of all three large, high windows.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August with family and friends. The room was very spacious and clean, though yes it could have done with a refurbishment. The niggles about the room were more than made up for by the warm welcome we received. Charlie is the best host we've ever had. Nothing was ever too much trouble and was always available whether for a chat, a recommendation for a drink and a meal or finding a room at short notice to accomodate friends who turned up for a day out and decided to stay. Will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Worth asking for a sea view - Charlie will oblige if he's able

The hotel is definitely in need of a refurb. The first room we were given was atrocious and without complaining the owner asked the next morning if we wanted to move to a room which had obviously been refurbed. the only problem with this room was the bathroom/toilet door had a handle but no latch. Hopefully Charlie will be able to refurb the other rooms. The hospitality was good but didnt make up for the state of the first room.

Room Tip: Dont believe the videos that the hotel sets up on line

We stopped here for a fishing weekend, dad and 4 brothers. We stopped here last year too and I meant to write a review but never got round to it. Yes the hotel is in need of a lick of paint here and there, but Charlie and his gang more than make up for this. A great character, always friendly and willing to help, even when woken at 12.30am when a brother forgot his key... Charlie entertained the breakfast guests with his tale of this, he should be on stage! Last year he put our fish in the freezer, and even packaged up sausage butties for those who didnt make breakfast - and this year he let us put our beer in the fridge to keep cool, and loaned us glasses to enjoy our bubbly whilst we barbecued our freshly caught fish. We'll be booking in again next year - hospitality like this is few and far between.
