“Excellent stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

Just returned from a 3 night break at the Middleham. We have no hesitation in giving 10/10 for a beautiful room, modern facilities, wonderful breakfasts and very friendly owners.
We will return without a doubt!.

I only had a short two night stay at the Middleham, but I was very impressed with the fresh decor and cleanliness of this guest house. My room was comfortable with good facilities. Breakfast was well cooked with a good choice and the proprietors made you feel very welcome. The location is convenient for both the town or the beach. I would certainly stay there again the next time that I visit Whitby.

We have stayed here several times over recent years and it is delightful. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the facilities good and the owners (Mick and Sheila) enthusiastic and helpful. Breakfast is well cooked and nicely presented. Recommended

This was our second visit to the Middleham and we stayed in the newly refurbished sea view room on the third floor. I was most impressed it had a very comfy seating area where we could relax looking out over the bay or watch the sun set. The room itself is very spacious and tastefully decorated with lovely furniture. Mick and Sheila were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fantastic will definitely be back

Room Tip: If you don't mind stairs room 9 is definitely worth the climb

I've come to think of B&Bs as a form of accommodation permanently stuck in the 1970s, with woodchip wallpaper, candlewick bedspreads and ho-hum breakfasts served up to the sound of Jim Reeves. So my hopes weren't high when we dragged our suitcases up the steps to this guest-house on what seemed a rather unpromising street in Whitby.

Things immediately improved when we met Sheila and Mick, who showed us up to our room, which was nicely decorated with good ensuite and tea-making facilities - plus a great sea view, and even a pair of binoculars to view it with (it's Room 5 on the 2nd floor).

This proved to be a sign of things to come. There's an attention to detail, from having a very effective overhead fan in the room (vital in the recent heatwave) to an excellent fresh fruit salad and decent veggie sausages for breakfast (which was first-rate).

The location is very handy for most things in Whitby, and parking not an issue: we found plenty of free spaces on the seafront crescent which is no further away from the room than most large hotel carparking spaces.

Overall, we loved staying here and would recommend to anyone who (like me) needs reminding what a great B&B can be like: a quality small hotel but without the anonymity.

Room Tip: Room 5 has a great sea view; it is on the 2nd floor. If you don't want to be woken up by seagull...

Ive literally just returned from this Aprils Whitby Goth Weekend, I was a solo traveller and both Shiela and Mick couldnt have been more friendly and accommodating, I was due to go home on Monday but decided to stay the extra day and go on Tuesday. My room was on the first floor and looked fresh and was very clean, it was compact but had an amazing little onsuite (you'll just have to book in and see!). I enjoyed a cooked veggie breakfast and all the guests were offered extra toast and tea, I was impressed that Sheila remembered all her guests preferences. I loved that there was a guest fridge so that there was always fresh milk for making tea/coffee as well as storage, such a simple idea but one that made a real difference (Im a tea fiend!). I felt very comfortable at the Middleham and wouldnt hesitate to recommend it, both for value and atmosphere. Mags.

My fiancee and I stayed here for a few days at the beginning of October last year (2012), before the annual tide of goths swept in for Halloween. For the price and what you get, The Middleham is a great bed and breakfast. We stayed in one of the seaview rooms over looking whitby bay and the east coast. The room was cosy and functional, and was cleaned regularly. The hosts Mick and Sheila were very hospitable and are good to talk to if you want to pick their brains about any good eateries or local restaurants or simply, things to do. Location is also great because you are in easy walking distance from Whitby town centre and the train station. Breakfast was also wonderful, and if you are like me and go to the Magpie cafe the night before and don't realise what they mean when they say 'Yorkshire - sized' portions and you don't think that you will fit a cooked breakfast in, then you can just leave a note and they can accomodate you with fresh fruit, cereal and other fare as well. All in all, a lovely stay.
