We decided very late that we would spend a couple of days over the double bank holiday weekend in Whitby, actually deciding as late as Sunday afternoon meant we would travel Monday morning, stay Monday evening and return home on Tuesday evening.
I emailed a few B&B's (70+) thinking there would be very little availability if any, but did receive quite a few replies, however Kimberley House was the first to reply and not knowing at that point if we would get anymore replies, I called and booked it.
We managed to get parked right outside as someone was pulling away as we arrived, but we did see cars driving round and round waiting for a space to free up. The location of the B&B is very good in relation to the main areas but be prepared for many steps or a fairly steep road. The welcome from the owners was very friendly, but as mentioned in an earlier review, we were asked to pay before being shown the room.
The room was a little disappointing, we knew it was in the attic, that wasn't a problem, but the standard of decor and facilities was a little poor. It reminded me of a spare room that only gets used when needed, there were no wardrobes, some open shelves on the wall but nowhere to hang clothes. I can't comment on the standard of other rooms as to whether this being the attic that it actually was refurbished to a lower standard or not. The room was clean (other than the shelves that needed dusting) and the bed was very very comfortable.
The bathroom was fine, clean and practical, although the shower head didn't fit the clip correctly and was a bit awkward.
Breakfast was good, exactly what you would expect, very tasty and filling.
£70 per night paid.
In summary, a nice B&B with friendly owners in a good location, but I would expect a slightly better standard of room.
