We went to Whitby on Bank Holiday Monday, and it was predictably busy. We passed by most of the well-known fish and chip takeaways and restaurants because there were such large queues and decided to go into Harry's.
The bar has a modern clean decor and has a number of tables outside, but these were all taken when we got there. Inside was quieter and it was nice to get away from the crowds outside. The staff were very amiable and since we had already decided it was a fish and chip day, the family all ordered the same.
When the fish and chips came they were attractively served in a wire basket. They were served with a bowl of crushed minted peas, which were delicious, although it would have been nice to have had a lot more of these! The chips were clearly home made and well cooked. The fish was also well cooked with a crisp and light batter. I think serving them in the basket meant that they were not swimming with grease like some other fish and chips we have eaten.
The only reason I am not giving Harry's 5/5 is that we had to wait a long time (nearly an hour) from ordering to receiving our food. The waitress did apologize and we did seem to be the exception rather than the rule. The fish and chips were more reasonably priced than some of the other restaurants at £7.50 and I would definitely recommend giving them a try when you are next in Whitby.
