First things first, the pros - very friendly and welcoming family run hotel. Very clean room. Very comfortable bed. Cooked breakfast a good standard and fruit, cereal, yogurts, and small cereal bars available. Own parking space, but some behind each other, although not a problem during our stay. Great location, as 5 mins walk from the shops, pubs and restaurants.
Cons - Rooms 6 and 7 are Very Small. We were not told this before the stay and yet charged the same price as the other en suites which I presume are bigger. I did mention this to manager Rachel, who was accepting of the fact in saying, "we try not to use those rooms as they are a lot smaller." The answer? Charge a lower rate for these 2 rooms then all are happy and customers know what to expect. I am too polite to ask for a reduced price, but if you intend on booking at The Grove, I would ask for a set room. If 6 and 7 are all that is left, I would request a lower rate. To put this in to perspective, the main room is the size of a standard double bedroom and the shower room is the size of a broom cupboard!!! Not comfortable for a couple and sorry, but not 4 star with no drawers in the bedroom for clothes!! I appreciate that the family have recently taken over the business and you can see that they are making their mark on it for the better, slowly but surely.
We won't be staying again, purely because we paid £66 per room, per night for a small 3 star room. I do however wish the family well and I am sure the hotel will be much improved over the coming year!
