“Great comfortable place nice staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

We really enjoyed our stay at the Lion. The Staff were friendly and helpful, the roaring fire was perfect for a winter's evening and the food was good. There is a choice of real ales and general atmosphere was excellent. I had a kipper each day for my breakfast which was lovely and all meals come with watercress at the side! They must have a good supply! I love watercress!

Transport by train is really easy, I came from Nottingham and that is simply a matter of train to Leeds and then a train to Settle and the hotel is a few mins walk from the station. Would recommend for a relaxing few days.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us and yes the log fires are very welcome especially with the weather the way it is at the moment. I am delighted you enjoyed the food and ales while you were staying with us. The chef has one or two local suppliers that keep him in watercress so everyone is happy.

I hope to welcome you back to the Lion in the near future

Kind regards
Ian Pilcher - Manager and all the team at The Lion.

We recently stayed in a lovely cottage in Stainforth but the only down-side to our few days in North Yorkshire was lack of restaurants that were dog-friendly.........until we came across this beautiful hotel. On a very cold day the open log fire was most welcoming and we were delighted that we could bring our (house trained and well-behaved) pup into the bar area. Food was of a very high standard, the decor was stunning and tasteful and the staff were courteous and helpful. We'll definitely be returning to the area and to this lovely hotel.

I was working in Settle and needed a room for a night, the room they gave me was bigger than my house and was lovely, massive bed, sofa and table and work desk, all very well decorated and housed a large bathroom with plenty of hot water.

One great feature is they give you fresh milk upon arrival.

The wifi is free and worked very well in the room and it also had a nice large flat screen tv which could be watched from the sofa or the bed easily.

The pub served nice food althoug it did arive on a bread board with a tin of chips......would have prefered a plate but hey it was cooked well and tasted great, beer was also well kept.

One issue is no parking but it is an old coaching inn so they cant do alot about that.

Room Tip: Room 7, its massive

When we stayed at the Lion with a group of 25 people, we were particularly thankful for the generous and casual hospitality that we met with. We appreciated the manager's warm welcome and the extraordinarily helpful staff he has around him very much.
We all really felt at home and would like to come again, should we plan to be in the area with another group or as a family or solo.
We especially appreciated the Lion's flexibility with unusual dinner times in late afternoon, which had been the precondition to make our trip to the ManCity vs. BVB CL match possible.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we were delighted to have you and your students stay with us and I am glad we gave you a traditional Yorkshire experience, I have passed your comments on to the staff and there were delighted. I am pleased we were able to arrange an early meal for you so you could go to the Man city vs. Dortmund game.

I do hope that if you our ever in this area again or our bringing more students over to England you will come and visit us, finally thank you very much for taking the time to leave a review, and good luck with the rest of the champions league campaign.

Modern but very tasteful, public areas have lovely atmosphere and our room and facilities were excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful despite a problem with our booking. Only grumble was the Manager reminding us too many times that he had had to resolve a problem which was of their making in the first place.

We were recommended this hotel by a friend and we were not disappointed. The welcome was warm and we were shown to our room immediately, down a twisty narrow corridor which made us curious to know more about the history of this old coaching house. The bedroom (Room 4) was plenty big enough and the furniture was in keeping with the olde worlde atmosphere. the bathroom was modern and spotlessly clean. We booked our evening meal which again did not disappoint, the food was extremely well presented and tasted great at a very reasonable price too. We stayed in the bar area and all the staff were friendly and eager to be of assistance. All the walls are covered with pictures of old Settle and interesting information about the pub. There is a massive inglenook fireplace as you enter the hotel surrounded by comfy sofas, a really welcoming sight on a chilly afternoon. The breakfast again was plentiful and served with a smile. Well done to all at The Lion, we will be returning and recommending you.
