This was our 4th visit to this lovely old house that dated from 1500's . It is ideally situated in the main st of Settle and plenty of off road parking. The breakfasts are very nice and tasty with lots of home made jams and fruits from their own garden. There are 10 rooms and are very comfy. Would come again and will recommend it to anyone. It has been the family home for over 55 years.

We chose the Whitefriars for a cycling weekend in this beautiful part of North Yorkshire. Settle is the perfect centre for this and Whitefriars were very accommodating to us as cyclists including allowing us to park the bikes in their garage. It is a lovely old house with nice rambling gardens to the front and plenty of space for parking. Our room was comfortable and the breakfast very tasty, with a full vegetarian option available. Given the fact that it's reasonably competitively priced, the accommodation and breakfast are good but there are two factors that would dissuade us from returning. One is the availability of hot water in the morning which was patchy ... one of us experienced intermittent warm water while showering while the other had the water turn ice cold in the midst of showering ... brrrr! The other little oddity is that residents are required to leave their key in a locked drop box when they go out. The advice is that the door is locked at 11.30pm but you can arrive back later with prior notice. Not wanting to keep our hostess up late we were back well before 11.30pm but this arrangement seemed a little archaic and had us keeping an eye on the time when we went out for dinner and a drink in the evening. Overall, the house urgently needs significant investment and redecoration to bring it up to scratch but this needs to be balanced against the friendly and warm welcome, the lovely gardens and the excellent breakfast!

Following our stay this time last year I was disappointed to learn we were to be in a 2nd floor room this time. I need not have worried - the room was just as spacious, furniture antique and wonderfully cared for. As last time everything was immaculate. Despite electrical problems at breakfast time there was no sign of panic from the kitchen and, if the lights had been working, we wouldn't have noticed a thing. I understand the guesthouse has been in the same family for 55 years and I'd urge you to visit before the owners retire.

The B&B was located near the centre of Settle and was also very handy for Giggleswick. We nearly missed the turning into the B&B but once in there was ample free parking. As others have mentioned the people running this B&B are very friendly and helpful. It has a somewhat old fashioned feel and it feels like you are entering someones home rather than a commercial B&B. Our room (Donald's) was on the top floor and was spotless and a reasonable size. TV was not digital but had Freeview.. Nice touch were the homemade cakes/biscuits. No bath but good shower with all the usual gels etc.

The breakfast room was very pleasant and continued the old fashioned feel. The breakfasts were of a good standard and choice and cooked individually - how I hate buffet breakfasts! My wife complimented the waitress on the home made muesli.

It is a large house with a lovely garden which has been in the family for over 50 years but I did notice For Sale signs so I hope this is not the end of this B&B as we would highly recommend it and if we are visiting the area again we would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Alol the rooms seem fine but we liked out top floor rom with view over the back garden

A homely, very comfortable and well established B&B in the heart of Settle where we have stayed many times. This lovely house is full of character and enjoys a grandstand view of the Settle & Carlisle railway line as it traverses a viaduct high over the main road through the town. The dining room where breakfast is served always has a very welcoming feel with fresh flowers and plants. Mary's home made muesli and her fruit compotes (made with fresh fruits from the garden) are a delight and the cooked breakfasts (to order) cannot be faulted. There is a very pleasant sitting room for guests on the first floor stocked with local magazines and tourist information. A real Yorkshire welcome is always guaranteed at Whitefriars.

Room Tip: Ask to be put either on the railway side of the house - or on the side away from the railway accordi...

Others have mentioned the welcome, the confortable room, the good location, the safe, convenient parking - I second all of that! I would also like to commend Mary's cooking to you. Breakfast in the very pleasant dining room is a treat for lovers of home-grown and home-cooked food. The rhubarb, strawberry and redcurrant (all grown in the garden at Whitefriars) compote was delicious with the high-quality, creamy yoghurt on offer. Although I am not a vegetarian, I opted for the vegetarian breakfast as I often do - and almost became a full-time convert! Not for Mary the dried-up, tasteless vegetarian sausages bought from the supermarket. She creates her own according to the produce of the season. I was lucky to have one based on leeks and cheese, which was an absolute delight. I would not consider anywhere else if I return to Settle someday, which I hope I do.

Room Tip: We were in 'Mary's Room', a corner room facing the garden and railway beyond. We were as...

A very nice b&b. Well situated and plenty of car parking within the grounds. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Very good value for money. The only thing I didn't like was not having a front door key.
