I have visited both this restaurant, and the other Zaks (on the hill in Norwich) several times.
The plus points are:-
Reasonably quick service
Good portion size
Menu is flexible (they will make a childs portion into an adult portion for my 13 year old fussy son , and you can swap fries for vegetables etc)
The milkshakes, although pricey, are lovely.
The riverside location is nice, especially if you sit outside in the summer
The minus points are:-
No wheelchair access (there is a big step near the door, and stones outside which you can't push a chair over in order to get to the step!)
The staff training could be better - american diners should emulate american service, and the waiting staff are not as attentive as they could be.
There is a serious lack of parking.
If you want a romantic meal for two, this isnt the place. If you want a quick lunch or somewhere to take the kids on a Saturday - then this place is fine.
In general, restaurants like this have become a bit dated (even though I know the theme is retro, they should make more of an effort to move with the times in terms of the levels of service that other chains provide).
I have given a "very good" overall rating because I am judging it as a fast food burger joint and not a fine dining experience. Like all things, you get what you pay for, and as a burger joint, this place is perfectly ok. I would go back.
