“Purely Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

I have visited this pub on many occasions and it is simply great for a get together with family and friends alike.
They have a large menu which is seasonal and a large specials board. They have a varied wine, beer and lager selection.
Sometimes the wait for a meal is a while as they can get very busy and food is cooked fresh to order.
Outside there is ample seating next to the river and they even sell duck food at the bar so the children can feed them.
Would recommend to all.

“WILL NEVER RETURN”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

Now I can see how the reviews were so varied on this pub, our first visit was excellent but although we have been going weekly since, over the last three visits we have had incorrect orders served, dried food, wrong drinks and on our last visit extreme rudeness and aggressiveness by a member of staff when the pubs error re the food order and the food served, This caused us huge embarrassment and although we could not fault the lovely girl who came to apologise for the wrong pie being served, we had already started eating and this would have been a complete waste of food so we didn’t accept the offer to change to the correct order. Unfortunately - the attitude of the person who originally served us from the moment we had sat down to when we queried the bill was rude, aggressive and very loud. This is why we shall NEVER return as it doesn’t matter if things go wrong, it is how they are dealt with and mainly, they have been dealt with quickly and with a smile so we continued to visit but that one person created such a nasty unpleasant situation that we will certainly be having our mid weekly meals elsewhere. It is such a shame as Patricia was very apologetic, the lovely girl who brought us the incorrect type of pie was certainly more concerned than we were, she was lovely and we told her not to worry. Patricia did try to deal with the situation caused but the damage has been done. Most of the staff are very friendly and accommodating and she always can be seen looking after customers and staff and making sure all is running smoothly - shame they have been let down by the attitude and actions of one person who used to be one of the best in there.

“Excellent good old fashioned home made British roast. Outstanding!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012 via mobile

Have been to this pub for many a year but never have I had such a good meal as this afternoon. Didn't expect to be able to get a roast mid Sunday afternoon but while not all options available was still able to select a roast. Massive home made yorkies, vegetables al dente, plenty of meat, finished off with great roasties and plenty of gravy. As good as it gets. Yum!!

“Superb Eating House”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

Had an excellent meal last night. My wife had reserved a table for five. We ordered drinks upon arrival and were immediately shown to our table. The waiter who in the main looked after us was extremely courteous and helpful as were all the staff. The restaurant was very busy and pleasantly warm. We started with olives which were very good and then had three further courses. There was an excellent Game specials menu which included Pheasant, Partridge, Guinea fowl, Venison and Salmon. I chose the Partridge which was very good. Choosing from this menu gave you three courses for £18.99 which was really excellent value. An excellent Sauvignon Blanc was available for £15. For desert I chose Vanilla cheesecake with eton mess on top. Sounded interesting but sadly although ok I think it was made with tinned strawberries. Overall we had a very enjoyable evening. Service was very prompt and I considered the meal to be excellent value.
