“Good food and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

We attended an evening business event this week and although we only had a finger buffet there was an excellent selection of food, including tasty vegetarian options, and the service was very efficient (although the staff did not look overly happy). The only negative comment I would make is that some of the seats on the football pitch side of the restaurant are subject to icy blasts from the air conditioning.

“Not so great second time around.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Having been to Delia’s two years ago and had a fantastic meal and time – I had raved about it to friends and we decided to book again this year. But I must say that I was quite disappointed this time. Last time we came, the restaurant was only half full whereas this time there were only a couple of tables vacant so much busier.

Having been here before I knew that there would be “nibbles” before we ordered – when they didn’t arrive I assumed that they just didn’t do this anymore – but it turns out that they forgot them and bought them when we were halfway through our starter – not a massive issue but annoying. They didn’t have our first choice of wine either – again – annoying – why not tell us that before giving us the wine list?

The bread which came round was absolutely delicious – choice of three types. One of our party is both vegetarian and gluten intolerant and I did give this information when I booked the table – she herself rang the restaurant to confirm this information a week or so before. Again – last time we came, they had prepared a special menu which had the standard vegetarian option which is on the set menu, plus some adapted dishes so she at least had a choice – they also had some wonderful gluten free freshly baked bread and some nibbles specifically for her. This time – we had to remind the staff three times of her dietary requirements – the bread they bought out for her was toasted and looked suspiciously like shop bought gluten free sliced bread – and she said tasted like it too. Also when we reminded them of her dietary requirements all they did was take her menu away and cross out what she couldn’t have and hand it back to her – it was all a bit poor really.

Last time they came round with the bread quite a few times – it wasn’t the case this time. The starters arrived very very quickly and most thought them very nice. I ordered the potted shrimp which I found quite disappointing as it tasted of anchovy and I hate anchovy – it is a very strong flavour and one that a lot of people don’t like so they should have noted that it contained it. The rest of the starters which varied from the black bean soup, and pate to artichoke all got good comments (although they did forget one of the starters and we had to wait for that).

Our starter plates had barely been taken away before the main courses were put in front of us – all but two of our party of 8 ordered the steak. It was delicious BUT the portion was very mean – especially as it came with just a few salad leaves and 5 chunky chips. Also, a couple of the steaks obviously got muddled up and instead of the medium rare which was ordered they got a medium to well.....

We asked for a break between the main and the dessert and the waitress looked a little put out – after only a couple of minutes another waiter asked if he could take our orders and we again said that we would like to wait – again, it didn’t look as this went down very well. Don’t get me wrong – all the staff were very polite and friendly but they obviously wanted to get us through there asap. After about 10-15 minutes we relented and ordered our dessert – they were in front of us within a couple of minutes! As we were just starting our desserts another waiter came round and poured just two of us coffee (which we hadn’t asked for) – and then went. When we called him back he said – “oh – did the rest of you want coffee?” – it was all a bit shambolic really. After we had drunk our coffee, the petit fours came out.....

The other thing I feel I have to mention is the state of the toilets – now I know that this is a football ground – but this is the corporate section and the toilets are, well – basic to say the least – they look like cheap public toilets – the grout on the floor is discoloured from not being cleaned properly – the fittings are cheap, and shabby – it’s pretty grim to be honest – and not at all what you would expect given how nicely the restaurant has been fitted out.

All in all, it was nothing more than OK which was disappointing given that we know it can be so much better.

“Lovely meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

My husband and I decided to visit Delia's whilst in Norwich. We looked at the menu before we went and although not extensive we both managed to find a few dishes that we liked. There were plenty of staff, so the service was good. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were just right. The price was reasonable for a three course meal of this quality at around £35.00 per head. The restaurant was lovely but if I had to make one criticism it would be that some of the tables were too close together, especially for tables for couples, you could easily overhear the conversation at the next table. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will book again when back in Norwich.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

This was a retirement gift package which included champagne on arrival, wine with the meal and a full three courses plus coffee. We were greeted by name on arrival, our coats were taken and we were shown to the bar for our champagne and an excellent plate of nibbles which included home-made crisps and sticky nuts. After a short time we were taken to our table. We took the wine waiter's advice and ordered an excellent sancere. The menu is not extensive but we both found more than one item for each course that we fancied. The courses arrived at just the right sort of interval and everything was truly exceptional, well prepared, presented and very tasty. There were lots of staff in attendance but they were attentive while not being overly so, just right. Overall a really superb evening with delicious food in a fine restaurant.

“Fantastic Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013 via mobile

Just been to Delias for an 18th birthday dinner. The staff were amazing especially Debbie and Quentin. Food was good although slightly overpriced (my opinion). Would highly recommend.
