“comfortable hotel”

The Beeches Lodge

Jan 9, 2008

I booked this at the last minute and wasn't expecting anything great but was very pleasently surprised. The first room we check into was a lovely clean double with a spotless bathroom but the shower was broken. The receptionist moved us with no hassle to a family room with was equally comfortable and clean.

We both had breakfast the next morning which upto a good standard.

for the price and location this hotel was fantastic would definately stay there again.

“Terrible Plus Bed Bugs!!!!!”

The Beeches Lodge

Oct 27, 2007

I booked this hotel for my mum and me while we had a one week stay in Norwich. I can not begin to explain how horribly run this hotel was. And I have been telling all my mates to STAY STAY STAY AWAY from this place.

First, the receptionist, who was not ver polite nor knew much of the English language, gave us the wrong room key. She told us our room was room 2, but gave us the key to room 3, which was adjacent room 2. (for some reason, our key worked in both rooms as i tried later that night to enter room 2).
Next, she offered to walk us to our room, but instead of showing us to room 2 she asked us to go into room 3.
The next day, we received a very rude letter saying that we had violated the contract and wrongfully entered the wrong room.
I went to the receptionist right after receiving this letter, and she insisted it was my fault. EVEN THOUGH SHE HAD LEAD ME TO THE WRONG ROOM.

When we checked out, it was a whole 'nother story. The receptionist this time was a male eastern european man, who probably did not have more than an elementary education.

We had already called for our taxi, and I wouldnt think it would take more than 15 minutes to check out since it was 8 am in the morning.

First, the male receptionist tried to charge us for breakfast for the first day we arrived, even though we did not arrive until 3 pm that day or chosen the breakfast deal package.

I ordered him to deduct the breakfast amount from the total. the total was £257 and the breakfast was £7. His calculator had broken, and asked me to wait for the manager to come in in 30 minutes. I tried to show him on paper how to deduct £7 from £257. Because I had said dollars instead of pounds by accident (because I am originally from Canada) he accused me of trying to cheat him. This place is horrible, poorly operated, my bed had bed bugs, every time I layed on my bed i got bitten. I ended up staying back at my flat and left my mum in the hotel because it was just that terrible. Plus, there was carpet in the loo.

When we arrived at the hotel/B&B we were informed that our room wasn't ready. However, we checked in and had to prove the rate we had bought with an email confirmation as we purchased on a special offer that the receptionist wasn't aware of.

The reception area was dull, unattractive and wasn't very welcoming. When we were given the keys to our room we were then informed that we weren't even located in that building but in an adjacent building across the road. We were also handed a television remote control and told to return it on our departure as 'they tend to go missing'.

We crossed the road and approached our unattractive building and entered through the insecure front door, insecure because both our room key and communal door key managed to open the lock with ease. We entered and made our way down the hallway on a very dirty beige carpet until we found our room and entered.

A very cheap door stood between our room and the hallway and a yale lock secured it. There was no spyhole or door chain.

As we entered the carpet did not become any cleaner and the facilities bordered on the dire. There were twin beds as we had expected, these were reasonably well made, however the linen suffered a couple of minor cigarette burns.

The bathroom had an appropriate number of small towels, no bath sheets and the complimentary shower gel and shampoo were provided in small sachets!

There was no storage space at all. There was no set of drawers and not even a small wardrobe, nothing. We noticed a brief booklet explaining the facilities and despite the hotel allegedly offering room service there was no telephone in the room to call from, despite being in a separate building to the main complex.

We booked through laterooms.com and according to laterooms there is wi-fi available in public areas, however this only exists in the conservatory area of the main complex. We were told that sometimes people cannot connect to this and wi-fi could then be obtained from a cafe owned by the hotel in the city centre, hardly ideal.

We are early risers and like to get out and about, giving the housekeeping staff plenty of time to make up the rooms. We returned to our room on the second morning at about 13.00 and the room had still not been made up. We decided to have a quick shower and head out again, at this point, housekeeping knocked the door, when told that we would require half an hour to finish our showers the housekeeping staff member became irritated and went off in a huff.

Although this 'hotel' is close to the city centre there are a number of far better establishments to stay at while in Norwich, I would seriously advise caution before booking this hotel.

We stayed in this hotel as we were in Norwich for a wedding. The groom's family were staying in the hotel so we thought it would be good and we weren't disappointed.

The reception staff were friendly, efficient and helpful and the room itself was comfortable although quite small. Friends in our party had larger rooms but our's was split between bathroom, bedroom and wardrobe area and I was really liked the layout for us. We weren't there much as it was just a base for a few hours sleep and then breakfast but it was perfect for our needs.

This is a great little hotel. I needed a cheap place to stay in Norwich and stumbled across this and it turned out to be a little gem.

My twin room cost only £47/night which is a real bargain. I was a little wary about what i'd get for that price, but the room was large, and nicely decorated. Both the room and ensuite bathroom were spotlessly clean, with the usual little freebies (tea, biscuits, shower gel etc). The towels were nice and fluffy and the bedding was soft and clean.

The people working there were all lovely too and I'd definitely stay again...should I ever find myself in Norwich again!
