We found the Castle Carvery by chance when we were staying for a weekend in the Best Western opposite.
We arrived Friday afternoon, after travelling, & found loads of empty seating & lots of staff around.
Nice atmosphere, playing 60's & 70's music, there is a childs area (just avoid it if it bothers you!)
You do have to pay & order at the bar & yes that can be where the queues are but it didn't bother us.
Having looked over the menu the carvery indeed was good value for money. We ate on Friday at 3.30pm, it cost £8.99 for the carvery & a dessert! FAB! Though they do charge quite a bit for the drinks £4.65 for a bottle of Crabbies alcoholic beer.
The carvery was easy to negotiate. Nice choice of meats/pie & plenty of vegetables, potatoes, Yorkshires, mini sausages, gravy & other condiments.
The Saturday we came in twice! Once for breakfast at 9am & again around 7pm. The breakfast was an all you could eat buffet for 2 people was £10. Brilliant price. Again you couldn't complain, there was juice, waters, milks, cereals, toasts, jam/marmalades, plus all you would expect for a full English breakfast. All food was hot & plentiful & pleasant staff refilling the containers as necessary. When we arrived in the evening they were rather busy & lots more families. But again we had the carvery & again no problem.
We were really pleased to have found this place & would highly recommend this to anyone who's in the area.
