“A short but pleasant walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2012

A walk down this short lane takes you back to the (good) old days, remembering all streets were like this.

“Thank heavens it was saved”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2012

Possibly the most beautiful medieval street in England. It's hard to imagine that it was nearly demolished in the 1960s.

“Charming mediaeval oasis in the heart of Norwich”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2012

When you stroll around the few precious cobbled streets that make up the Elm Hill area you will find it hard to believe that once upon a time campaigners had to fight long and hard to prevent the city 'fathers' from knocking it all down in the name of progress. Presumably they would have liked the whole city to look like '60s eyesores such as Anglia Square, now ironically scheduled for demolition and redevelopment - and not a moment too soon - but just imagine what was there once, too - it's enough to make you weep. The very existence of Elm Hill is a salutary warning from history to rapacious developers and misguided public 'servants' everywhere. Go there, explore its curious nooks and crannies, enjoy its tearooms, restaurants and antique shops and give thanks for its continued and now cherished existence. Elm Hill is very handy for the cathedral, but also for the quirky and hippy-dippy shops of Magdalen Street - including a concentration of excellent ethnic food grocers - blighted only by the hideous concrete flyover that makes you feel like you're in the Bronx and in danger of being mugged (you won't be, as far as I know!).
