“Poor Christmas meal experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

A very disappointing poor experience for works Christmas meal. Food acceptable - nothing special. Awful cutlery that wouldnt cut butter! Kitch and vintage but not practical!
Service was appallingly bad. Starters arrives 45 min late. No soup spoon. No drinks until main course - it was quicker to squeeze into the bar and get drinks ourselves. No wine list available - asked for glass rose and asked if it was dry but no one knew and didn't know names of wines at all.
Main course was ok - pork was nothing to write home about and bland veg although not over cooked.
Tap Water we requested at start of meal arrived with the desert. No water glasses.
Desert berry posset was so sharp it made me wince.
No cutlery again for desert - eventually arrived and the "waitress" gave me my spoon by holding the actual head of the spoon and not the handle. - class. It could be a nice place and would give it a try again for a beer and a burger type of meal in the summer but Xmas meal very disappointing.

We recently had a 3 night break at this hotel. First impressions are good, our room was cosy and well furnished with a quirky 60's twist. The addition of a good sized fridge with fresh milk, leaf tea, hot chocolate and a Nespresso machine made us feel at home. We thought the breakfast was excellent, different staff each morning and presented in three different ways! We only ate in one evening and unfortunately due to it being the peak of the party season it was very noisy and we were surrounded by groups of works parties, but our waiter that evening did a grand job of taking our order and ensuring we did not have to wait too long, all the time dashing about serving other tables. The food was good but we would have enjoyed it more in a quieter setting. It was also quite noisy when we went up to our room until the party revellers in the dining room at the bottom of the stairs left - usually by 11.30pm. All in all we would return to this hotel it was in a great location, plenty of parking and every member of staff was friendly and welcoming - but next time we will try booking outside of the party season or perhaps we should just return with our own party!

This was my second visit to the resturant the first was dissapointing would not have returned but a friend had booked it for our Xmas dinner... Firstly we were sat near the door it was cold and so noisy we couldn't have a conversation .... When we ordered they didn't have the food three of us wanted ... When the starter came two people where served frozen pate !!!! Zoe was extremely helpful and moved us to another table and we reordered the starters .... When the main arrived it was cold ... None of us really had anything to eat ... And to top the evening the toilets were blocked ... We made the most of our night with a massive thanks to Zoe who did everything possible to make things better

This is a Restaurant Review
We first visited this restaurant in the summer and dined in the gardens. It was a pleasant experience with nice food and satisfactory service. We visited last night for a pre Xmas Dinner with friends and despite booking in early October we were given a table in the bar area in a booth. Having sat down we were shocked by the foul language and sexual expletives being used at high volume by a group of raucous males standing in front of the bar. The three courses were served by a friendly waitress but the volume of ambient noise was extreme. I wandered to other parts of the restaurant and found we really had pulled the short straw as they were ok. So sadly we were quite disappointed

Dear fulfilled
Many thanks for your feedback.I'm sorry the individuals at the bar behaved inappropriately around your table, and we would of intervened had we been made aware. You have not commented on your food or service so i can only assume you enjoyed these despite the issues with our other customers. I do hope you come back to see us soon and let us know if you would like a quiet table

We met friends for Sunday lunch at the Townhouse and had an incredible meal. The food was beautiful, the children's portions perfect, the staff extremely helpful, warm and friendly, and there was a lovely atmosphere. We were thrilled to discover the children's play areas both inside and outside, making it the most family friendly place we've eaten in for quite some time.
My daughter trapped her fingers in a door (entirely her own fault!) and the staff and House Manager couldn't have been more attentive and lovely, and even gave her a gift to cheer her up.
Top marks for everything and we can't wait to come back! Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

Room Tip: If eating in the restaurant with children, book a table near to the enclosed play area to make the m...

this was a good restaurant with great food including the best steak I have had. It has been knocked through to make one large room and one of the walls taken back to bare brick which I think has spoiled the place and the atmosphere. It is now basically one big bar with tables. Staff were fine, we didn't eat, they have a god selection of beer and the prices were on the dear side. Overall disappointed with the changes

Dear Max
I'm sorry our new look isn't to your taste and its a shame you didnt try the food or bedrooms, particularly as we are a restaurant with rooms . Hopefully you'll try that on your next review.

Lovely setting but very disorganised service. The food was good but extremely expensive for the amount that was served. Between four people, we were given a small terrine of vegetables that, quite honestly, was only enough for 2 people. And don't order the cheese board if you want value for money. Two boards, at £8 each, came with slithers of cheese, a dozen grapes and just 5 or 6 biscuits for both boards. Will never dine there again.
