“Revamped”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2008

Stayed at Nelson in June after having a casual drink there on a previous occassion. This hotel has undergone a majour revamp, so the older reviews should be taken lightly. Location is brilliant, near Riverside development and Princes Street, so good for nightlife and Football. Spotlessly clean rooms and hotel. My favourite part of the hotel is the adjoining bar ( The Nelson) which is very well decorated, the beer is good, and the food is very good too. A doorman stands at the steps down to the Nelson deterring the stags and hens, which is good! The only downside is that the windows are single glazed, and not very sound efficient. Just take your ear plugs. Nice hotel.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2007

The hotel has now been completely refurbished. The family room we stayed in was a decent size, modern and clean with a nice balcony.

Only down side was that one of the beds for the kids seemed to be made of the most uncomfortable material possible.

Ate in the hotel restaurant which has big windows which open up and a veranda next to the river. Very nice and a nice modern decor too.

Staff where all friendly and helpful but the food was pretty poor. Frozen chips and fish and other frozen stuff. Didn't eat there again and I wouldn't recommend it unless you are used to dull tasting food or are just to tired to go looking for somewhere else to eat.

There is a cinema and restaurant complex just around the corner, or nightclubs and bars if you are that way inclined.

I would recommend this hotel and the rate was pretty fair as well.

  • Liked — Clean and modern
  • Disliked — The restaurant food was low quality and the carpet in the hall smells as it was new! :)

Paid extra for a 'superior' room. Never! Bathroom must have been original from when the hotel was first built - clean but very worn and tatty. Nasty hole where the fridge should have been. Cheek to leave a card of apology on the bed asking us to bear with them while the rooms were being redecorated! On the plus side the hotel is close to the station and not too bad a walk into the city centre.

  • Liked — Quiet room overlooking the river
  • Disliked — Overall tattiness
