“A comfortable stay in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014 via mobile

We stayed at the Maids Head for Burns Night. The tasting and three course meal was excellent and the hotel was cosy and relaxed. Location couldn't be better. The room was spacious, comfortable and well equipped, with a huge bathroom and separate dressing room. We will definitely be back!

Booked a short weekend break with friends to take advantage of the beautiful city. The hotel is in the heart of the city and is a great location for nightlife , bars and resteraunt .

Easy to find and has ample parking.

Check in was easy and the reception was more than helpful. The hotel is very old and has all the traits of an old hotel butted up to the newer needs of hotels in the 20th century.

Our room was comfortable and was well equipped with tea making facilities , toiletries etc .

The bar is a must visit as is the restaurant . The breakfast was very good and the staff were attentive and more than happy to assist.

A must do hotel in an ideal location to take advantage of the sites in Norwich. It is old and it has had face lifts to meet the modern needs so consider this if you stay ther.

Room Tip: Consider time of year or part of week to book the correct side of the hotel.

The hotel is in part a traditional coaching inn situated close to Norwich Cathedral in the city centre. Parts of the building date back centuries with not many straight lines or right angles in evidence which all added to the charm. Despite its age there was plenty of parking available in the hotel car park. The staff were very friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for me. The week I stayed there the main dining room was being refurbished for which the staff couldn't apologise enough. The temporary dining room was however more than adequate and the beer battered fish and chips were excellent. Breakfast was the usually continental buffet with a range of hot options. The free copy of the independent newspaper and free broadband were also gratefully received. I was in Norwich on business but the hotel would also make and excellent base for exploring Norwich and the surrounding area. I look forward to returning soon.

The Maids Head is a well located hotel, unfortunately we had booked a suite with a request for a quiet room. All the suites are apparently at the front of the hotel on to the busy main road , therefore a lot of traffic noise. Being an old coaching hotel , the floorboards are very noisy. We had to complain to the night porter at 3-00am for noise from the room above , which then started at 5-00am . So we had very little sleep. We spend 30/40 nights a year in hotels and this was our worst nights sleep for many years. I did inform the front desk staff , and on departure was given a 20% reduction on the room bill. Would rather have had a quality nights sleep

Room Tip: Do not book a suite !!

Dear snowyrob,

Thank you very much for your review in relation to your recent stay with us.

Firstly I must apologise that we did not quite meet your expectations during your time with us. Our aim is to exceed our guests expectations and leave them wanting to return time and time again.

Part and parcel of us exceeding our guests expectations is ensuring they get a good nights sleep in one of our beautiful bedrooms. We must apologise that this was not the case on this occasion. We do our very best to make sure that our guests respect one anothers peace and quiet and apologise that your neighbours were not quite as caresome on this recent visit. We are looking at more ways of sound proofing our bedrooms and hopefully we can improve this aspect before your next visit to the hotel.

A lovely period Hotel in the centre of Norwich, ideal for people wanting to see the sights or for shopping. Staff were friendly and our room was very nice and quiet, comfy bed meant for a great nights sleep. Breakfast was a hot and cold buffet with good choices.

Just a one night stopover which has left me a little confused as to how I felt in that I was left with no real opinion either way.

Positives were the fascinating building and history and without exception, the friendliness of the staff. The room was clean, we'll equipped and quite large. City centre location very handy.

Negatives were the room in old part was stifling but had 2 sash windows, of which one would not open. We were pleased to at least get one open until we realised we were above the haunt of the fag brigade which was horrific. The view from both windows was brick walls. Whilst room itself was clean etc it was not memorable. Reading other reviews, I note criticism of breakfast. I must say choice, quality and quantity was excellent but I found everything rather cold including eggs, bacon and tomatoes, but not enough to make fuss. Next time I stay I would probably stay without breakfast and go to Wetherspoons next door, which, whilst not cordon bleu, is consistent.

We did have a couple of drinks in the bar which we found comfortable and friendly.

Whilst I have reported honestly I also feel that the management work very hard to maintain this hotel and business premises where overheads of maintenance must be very large.

Dear Firefly306,

Thank you very much for your review in relation to your recent stay with us.

Firstly I must apologise that we did not quite meet your expectations during your time with us. Our aim is to exceed our guests expectations and leave them wanting to return time and time again.

I would like to investigate your comments further and would appreciate it if you could please email myself at gm@maidsheadhotel.co.uk.

We have recently changed our breakfast offering and have received rave reviews so far, so we want to check on the dates you stayed so apologies that you did not find everything at the right temperature, we now fully plate our breakfasts to ensure they get served at the correct temperature and are as fresh as can be as opposed to sitting under a buffet, we certainly would not want you to go to a whetherspoons when staying with us.

We must also apologise that you found the room too hot, we must have put the heating up too high on this ocassion in trying to ensure that all of our guests did not experience the horrible cold we have now been hit with.

Thanks once again for your review and we hope you return to the hotel in the near future where we aim to WOW you with our traditional Norfolk hospitality.
