“Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

A lovely period Hotel in the centre of Norwich, ideal for people wanting to see the sights or for shopping. Staff were friendly and our room was very nice and quiet, comfy bed meant for a great nights sleep. Breakfast was a hot and cold buffet with good choices.

Just a one night stopover which has left me a little confused as to how I felt in that I was left with no real opinion either way.

Positives were the fascinating building and history and without exception, the friendliness of the staff. The room was clean, we'll equipped and quite large. City centre location very handy.

Negatives were the room in old part was stifling but had 2 sash windows, of which one would not open. We were pleased to at least get one open until we realised we were above the haunt of the fag brigade which was horrific. The view from both windows was brick walls. Whilst room itself was clean etc it was not memorable. Reading other reviews, I note criticism of breakfast. I must say choice, quality and quantity was excellent but I found everything rather cold including eggs, bacon and tomatoes, but not enough to make fuss. Next time I stay I would probably stay without breakfast and go to Wetherspoons next door, which, whilst not cordon bleu, is consistent.

We did have a couple of drinks in the bar which we found comfortable and friendly.

Whilst I have reported honestly I also feel that the management work very hard to maintain this hotel and business premises where overheads of maintenance must be very large.

Dear Firefly306,

Thank you very much for your review in relation to your recent stay with us.

Firstly I must apologise that we did not quite meet your expectations during your time with us. Our aim is to exceed our guests expectations and leave them wanting to return time and time again.

I would like to investigate your comments further and would appreciate it if you could please email myself at gm@maidsheadhotel.co.uk.

We have recently changed our breakfast offering and have received rave reviews so far, so we want to check on the dates you stayed so apologies that you did not find everything at the right temperature, we now fully plate our breakfasts to ensure they get served at the correct temperature and are as fresh as can be as opposed to sitting under a buffet, we certainly would not want you to go to a whetherspoons when staying with us.

We must also apologise that you found the room too hot, we must have put the heating up too high on this ocassion in trying to ensure that all of our guests did not experience the horrible cold we have now been hit with.

Thanks once again for your review and we hope you return to the hotel in the near future where we aim to WOW you with our traditional Norfolk hospitality.

Had a fantastic evening. The food was fab it was a 6 course meal the portion sizes were perfect. The staff were superb very helpfull and polite. It was my first time on a casino table and it was great especially as it wasn't playing for real money. Overall it was an excellent evening we were a party of 2 and this was fine. I will be looking to return and already I have had a some friends asking me to organise tickets for them.

A great fantastic stay marred only by terrific noise from a function going on which did not finish until after 12 midnight.
We had room 328 opposite an emergency stair well. It seemed the stairs enabled the noise from one of the function suites to blast into our room and corridor. Did not finish until after midnight so not good if you want an early night.
Without this on our first night our two day stay was fantastic. The staff, the venue, the food, the service could not be better.
This hotel really is the epitome of a lovely break.
Cannot praise the staff highly enough.

Room Tip: Ask about functions and ask for a quiet room if there is a function.

Dear Brian N,

Thank you very much for your review in relation to your recent stay with us.

We are extremely pleased to see that you enjoyed your time with us although obviously disappointed to see that you were disturbed by a party being held at the hotel. We must apologise for this and hope it did not effect your experience too much. I will address this matter with the team and ensure they allocate rooms more appropriately for our guests that are not attending functions at the hotel.

Thanks once again and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Brilliant surroundings with perfect service, helpful and polite, not cheap but well worth the extra. Splendid range of ales. Centre of Norwich so convenient for castle, cathedral, and shopping. but car parking at rear is brilliant, convenient and secure. Recommend wholeheartedly.

Went to the Maids Head Hotel with a group (13) of colleagues for an evening of networking. The venue was a great place to have such a dinner as there was plenty of space and the staff were not over attentive, which is a real bug-bear of mine.

The food was excellent. It was the first night of a new menu and our server, Krystyna, was knowledgable and able to answer all our questions we posed about the food.

I was hoping for a relatively low calorie option for main (guinea fowl cannelloni) and dessert (fruit salad with a difference!) and Krystyna was very helpful in helping me achieve that.

Definitely worth a visit if you would like a menu with lots of choices that are a cut above and a bit different.

We stayed at the Maid Head Friday 3rd- Sunday 5th 2014. The room was good; however I would like to appraise the restaurant and staff. The food was well above average but the staff was excellent and I would like to say a big well done to the Chief and Richard who was our waiter for one of our meals:
Chief; we had two evening meals during our stay which were excellent, both visually and in taste and thank you for the vegetarian cooked breakfast!
Richard: He was front of house for our first evening meal, what was excellent about Richard was that he had detailed knowledge on the menu, we trusted his recommendations, and we were not disappointed! He even knew where the cheeses were sources from and how they tasted on the pallet. We also took his advice on the wine to complement the meal what can I say, the wine was perfect. We found out later on that Richard normally worked in the bar, that would explain his knowledge of wines. However his knowledge of the menu was equally as good which made our visit to the Maids Head a memorable one
