El Pirata was a tapas place, then a pizza restaurant, but this didn't work out, so it closed down. Now it's re-opened as a tapas place just a few weeks ago. Remembering that the paella there was always good, we went in. (Friday, 3rd July)
Ordered paella Valenciana, wine, olives and water. The wine and olives were fine. Had to ask a couple of times for the water.
After over an hour, my friend said that the paella was coming out of an oven! Needless to say, it arrived dry looking. We couldn't find any chicken in it and said that we'd ordered the mixed chicken and seafood paella. The waitress took it away. Some time later the same paella reappeared from the oven, burnt and with unmarinaded cooked chicken cubes tossed in. We were so famished by now that we picked at the dish and let the manager know that we thought it was disgusting. He took the paella off the bill, as he did for two ladies sitting at the table adjacent to us. But why cook a paella in the oven in the first place?
We won't be going back.
