“You can't go wrong with Balans, no matter what time of the day or night!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

Balans in Soho (both the cafe and restaurant) are still after 8 years one of my all time favourite eating spots in London.
Perfect place for a romantic dinner, catch up with friends or a middle of the night all day breakfast, the place caters for every need.
The surroundings are stylish, the staff are always super efficient and the food never disappoints. There are always specials to choose from and everything is reasonably priced. My group of friends always wonder how they can actually serve the same standards of food 24 hours a day in what must be one of the most popular restaurants in London.
The burgers are sublime!
Great place if you can get an outside table for what must be some of the best people watching the UK has to offer. If you're a first time visitor to London, make sure Balans Soho is on your 'must eat' list, trust me, you will love it!

“Good food, bit overpriced.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

I visit this restaurant on a regular basis. Probably once every fortnight, or once every month.
The food is good, as is the services, however the prices are a bit steep considering.

“Absolutely Fabulous!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

I was recently staying in London recently and wanted to spend some of the time in Soho area to see what the place was like as I had never been and always heard so much about it. Someone once told me there was a "Gay Themed Café" (or a Gay friendly café as it should be known of course!) and I actually thought they were joking (as I come from a town were there is absolutely no gay scene what so ever!)

So I typed into Google "Gay Café" and then saw this place and travelled about an hour to see it and it was absolutely worth the travel and money to be there!

Went in at around 9am on a Saturday morning (the day of London Pride weekend) and was already very busy.

The staff were very pleasant, helpful and the food was very quick. I ordered a full English fry and coffee. It came to around £11 which is a lot of money for the fry BUT it defiantly was the best breakfast and even the best food I had while staying in London.

The only negative thing I would say about this place is the impression I got from the staff. It just seemed they prefer the regular locals than the occasional tourist. I notice a lot of the staff were talking to other people and rarely to myself HOWEVER it probably was the case that those who came in were very well known to the staff and take nothing away from how nice the staff are but I would of liked them to talk to me abit too.

If im ever back in Soho again I will defiantly be back here again and would defiantly recommend others too!

“Declining service...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

I am a West End musician and have been coming to Balans for over fifteen years but have recently noticed a significant decline in service. Snooty manners, rude staff, difficulty finding tables even though there are clearly few paying customers in there. In spite of my interest as a food lover/gourmet, I always found their earthy basic dishes to match the friendly service and sense of 24-hour fun. If it is now apparently as difficult to get seated here as OXO or The Ivy, or to get friendly helpful service, then I know where I would rather go. Used to be 5 stars for what it WAS, now clearly trying to be something it is not, and thoroughly failing while it is at it. Zero stars, do not bother, sad to say.
