Description: Amaya is the sister fine dining restaurant of Chutney Mary and Veeraswamy. It focuses uniquely on sophisticated Indian grills, seasoned with subtle complex marinades. These are cooked in full view in a theatrical restaurant show kitchen It is a casual and joyous restaurant where people can relax and eat with their fingers if they wish. The real Indian food is designed to be shared and is served as it is prepared. There are no conventional first courses or main courses.Amaya achieved the rare distinction of winning the two most prestigious restaurant awards in the UK in the same year - The Tio Pepe ITV Awards for Best Restaurant as well as the Best New Restaurant. This is the first time either award has been awarded to a restaurant serving non - European food, let alone an Indian restaurant. In 2006, it also became one the very few Indian restaurants to be awarded a Star in any Michelin Red Guide.

“Great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013 via mobile

The food was amazing. Admittedly, I don't eat a lot of Indian food but this restaurant's format of "Indian tapas" was perfect for us. However, beware, the over eager busboy took away our plates before we could make use of all the sauces on them. It was a little noisy, not in a bad way. Also it was casual dress code so perfect for an upscale dinner for a couple tourists after we went around and saw the sights all day.

“Simply SUPERB!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Dining for the first time at Amaya on the recommendation of a friend, we were not disappointed in the least: everything was simply SUPERB in terms of both service and food all encompassed with wonderful ambiance!

Sampling a considerable number of dishes, it would be incredibly difficult to choose a favourite, but the menu certainly has something exquisite for everyone no matter their diet or palette. All of our selections were created with a perfect balance of contemporary Indian spices yielding specialized tastes not to be found in just any Indian restaurant.

Must haves though include the peppered chicken; the stuffed mushrooms; the salted tofu and the baby leg of lamb with the rose creme brulee to finish with. Truly, a culinary experience in the timely spaced tapas fashion to dream about pending a return visit.

“still amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

Just got back, and this restaurant is still absolutely amazing.

This is my 3rd time, and i always go back for the tandoori broccoli. Its just so simple, yet so tasty.

We opted for the vegetarian tasting menu, and added a few fish/meat dishes. It was all fantastic.

Granted, the dishes do come quite fast, but they always come 3 or 4 at a time, and then you have plenty time to eat with no stress. I highly recomend this place.

“Sloppy service with a rushed feel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

I'd never tried Michelin-starred indian food before Amaya. It was nice, no question. Lighter and cleaner and more pretty than the type of typical curry we're all accustomed to late on a Friday night. The pertions were a little on the small side though.

We ordered the five course taster menu. The dishes came out in very quick succession, with plates arriving before others had been finished, leaving us feeling very hurried.
After finishing our five courses, we were all still a bit hungry so the decision was made to get some more food. We were told that this was not possible as the kitchen had closed. It was 3.30pm!

My local curry house wins here hands down. Great food at a sixth of the price, obliging service and a kitchen that keeps pumping out the food aslong as you keep ordering.

The food is good, but the overall impression was not. Sorry.
