“Beautiful food and a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

My friend and I visited Strada in Blackheath on a Saturday evening (I would say booking is necessary - it was pretty busy).
The restaurant is decorated and lit effectively, creating a lively yet still quite intimate atmosphere.
The staff were busy, but we were made to feel welcome and valued. They were quick to provide menus and wine lists but seemed to wait to be signalled over for orders to be taken. At first we thought they were just too busy and we were getting forgotten, but it actually seemed like it might be a policy of theirs not to rush customers. When we signalled that we were ready to order, they came over to us promptly.
We had three courses. The portions are not huge, but sufficient and full of flavour. We both started with the bruschetta, which was topped with a lovely, creamy goats cheese. It was probably the best of the three courses. The seafood linguine went down well with my friend, and I had a tasty mushroom pasta dish. The dishes are creative without being over the top with the number of ingredients; and there is a good choice of dishes, including some tempting veggie ones for me.
I'm pretty sure Strada didn't use to put Vs on its menu, and I think that, having decided to do so, they have done it with great consideration. For example, they have assessed which desserts are and aren't veggie - many restaurants either don't bother putting Vs on their desserts or they just apply a blanket 'V' to the whole dessert menu, which makes me worry that they've not thought about things like gelatine.
And speaking of the desserts, it was difficult to choose! In the end we both went for the chocolate fondant - a small, but rich dish that finished the meal off perfectly. It was a marginal decision for me, because the chocolate mousse also looked very tempting!
The bill came to about £30 each, for three courses and two alcoholic drinks - not bad at all. There are several good restaurants in Blackheath, including at least two other Italian restaurants, and I think this encourages Strada to be the very best it can be.

“A chain restaurant with personal feel and attentiveness”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

Ate at the Strada in Blackheath three times over the course of a week (two lunches, one dinner) while on vacation in London. The locale is sufficiently large to accommodate what could easily be 50 patrons (most others in the village are smaller), is spartan in its interiors, and offers a menu with enough variety to satisfy even when visiting with frequency. The waiters were attentive, the food arrived at table within 15 minutes, the pricing was modest and the bills were correct, and all plates were consistent in quality, which was very good. Mind you, this is not a Michelin starred restaurant nor should it aspire to be. But it is also not a typical chain restaurant given the higher standards in taste, presentation, and service we experienced. The food was fulfilling without being greasy or heavily ladened, which can be an issue with Italian food chains. Indeed, had we not known it was a chain restaurant beforehand we would not have particularly noticed it as such. For all three sittings, we had no wait times, and even though it was quite busy for the one dinner we had, we were still seated promptly, orders taken within 5 minutes, and the food arrived quickly. It may also be helpful to note that this is one restaurant in Blackheath that is prepared to provide food for take away (or take out as its known to us) and which is open later than most others by at least one hour (until 23:00 I believe). One night we arrived quite late and tired to the village and just walked over to the Strada and ordered take away to eat in our flat. Once again they did not disappoint. They are located about 150 meters from the train station on the same street. Recommended for a comfortable lunch or dinner out.

“Comparable with Cardiff Strada”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2012

Visiting our son we chose this restaurant because of postive experiences in our local equivalent and as reasonable priced for the area. It was a Saturday night and we had not booked but were early evening so did get a table, though the restaurant is quite small. Service efficient and the variety of pastas amongst the three of us were very tasty and hot. Also liked the variety of breads we had as a starter and the arrival of a complimentary bottle of water.

Only quibble was the presumed automatic deduction of a presumed tip

“Loved it! Tutto é perfetto!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2011

Went for my birthday on the 5th November (Saturday night, fireworks on the Heath).
Extremely busy when we arrived, but had reserved and were shown to our table immediately.

Despite the place being full, we were waited on impeccably. Staff were friendly, smiling and chatty, while being professional too.

We were told that if we did want to go up to the Heath to watch the fireworks, then our table would be kept for us until we came back, which was a lovely gesture. As too was the complementary glass of prosecco when we arrived, in honour of my birthday (my wife had told them when booking!)

The food was lovely throughout - I adore Italian food, but often Italian chains don't serve very nice or authentic dishes. The food at Strada was, in my opinion, very authentic and gorgeous. The wine list was very good and varied and not over-priced. Even the espresso (so often tepid and bitter) was perfect!

I loved the food, the service and the atmosphere. Tables are a bit cramped for my liking, but still - a great restaurant.
