Description: Sake no Hana bar and restaurant is housed on the first floor of a modernist Grade II listed building in the heart of St James, offering modern Japanese dining. The a la carte menu provides a variety of hot and cold appetisers, charcoal grill, Toban and Kamameshi dishes, while sushi and sashimi are... prepared to order at the 13 seat sushi bar. A carefully selected list of sakes, Japanese whiskeys and other wines, spirits and liqueurs complement the dishes offered in the restaurant. Sake no Hana's interiors were designed my esteemed architect Kengo Kuma and the bar includes a beautiful futuristic chandelier, offering the perfect space for post work cocktails. The bar is also a beautiful space for private parties of up to 60 guests for a standing canape event, or can host up to 25 guests seated for an exclusive private dining experience. Monday to Thursday, 12pm - 2.45pm, 6pm - 11pm; Friday, 12pm - 2.45pm, 6pm - 11.30pm, Saturday 12pm - 4pm, 6pm - 11.30pm

“Avoid for romantic dinners, only go for business dining”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

Went to this place for my partner's birthday. We arrived the restaurant Thursday evening at the time of our reservation, 8.30pm, but kept waited downstairs in the bar for literally half an hour till 9pm with no proper excuse and no complementary drinks or anything. Then someone took us upstairs to the super noisy, a long radial corridor shaped and fully packed restaurant, where it was supposed to be a serene and spacious venue. Most of the online reviews talk about the decoration, the wooden interior, and it all seems to be copied from a press release by the owners, as it was more like an average business hotel bar. It was incredibly noisy, just like an American Diner filled with teens, and I had difficulty to speak to the waiter.

The food was okay but absolutely nothing special. I had better sushi in many other places.
Don't order the roasted duck slices as it's supposed to be steam cooked and then seared in a pan, though to me it was totally raw and consequently super chewy. Again the nice waiter realised the issue and took the plate away immediately. Then a suit wearing guy came with a stern look to repeat what the waiter already said. It was like "we're not going to charge you for this, but you have to suffer by listening to me." Not the service you expect on a supposed to be romantic night out.

The only nice thing about the evening was the waiter did a surprise as they have decorated the ice cream platter with candles and a happy birthday message for my partner's birthday.

Note: My rating for service is three since our waiter guy deserves a four but everybody else was quite cold, distant and unfriendly.

“Great Japanese Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

I had a business lunch here and we decided to go for the seven course taster menu at £49.99. The quality and presentation of the food is out of this world. The service and the atmosphere was fantastic. I was very surprised that there was only a few tables occupied during lunch. I will definitely go again.

“Enjoyable set lunch - would recommend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

I had lunch with a friend at Sake No Hana booked through bookatable.com. We had the four course 'Taste of Sake No Hana' menu with a Bellini cocktail for £29.00 per head. The service and ambiance were very good and the food was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the spicy chirashi maki which was extremely fresh and flavourful. I will definitely return to give the à la carte menu a go. Thoroughly recommended.

“Sashimi a standout but some dishes fall short (3.5 score)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013 via mobile

Recently moved to London and searching for some good Japanese. Not sure if this is that gem but there were some stand outs. Sashimi is fantastic, really the best we have had in London. The octopus salad, sounded good but overpowered by the dark sesame dressing and a little chewy. The agadashi tofu & tempura both lovely . Salmon looked great a it came out still with coals and smoke underneath. fantastic flavour but overcooked . Sukiyaki was lovely, with a great broth. Service was attentive and vey friendly. Although missing that touch of when not to be there and let you just enjoy the two of you . We spent around 210 for 2. That inc a cocktail to start (delicious) and we had a bottle of sake . So overall it does hit the pocket a little if you move away from the set menus and try a few things.

“Great Food Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

Went here on a Friday night for the set menu - Taste Of Sake No Hana - which is only available at certain times. It was a four-course meal including miso soup, main, sushi and dessert... with a Bellini cocktail. All the flavours were amazing and everything felt very thoughtfully prepared. The service was excellent and very attentive, our waiter was very friendly and happy to answer any questions about the food. It's quite a business/affluent tourist/Mayfair crowd but thought the bill was pretty reasonable considering all the different stuff we ate and how full we were! We had extra cocktails and they were really top notch too!
