This pub is very close to my house and I’ve visited frequently over the years. Despite being a fairly trendy pub and attracting a Shoreditch-type crowd it does have a range of ages mixing happily. Drink prices are on a par with all London prices (e.g. expensive) but the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is good and relaxed. Food is worth travelling for – some reviewers have noted below that it is expensive and it is on the pricey side but the quality is excellent. Short, changing menus mean that there’s usually something new to try and the attention to delicate flavouring is particularly good. Fish dishes are particularly strong and there’s always a steak on the menu. On the dessert menu I’ve never got past the rum and chocolate truffles which are gorgeous and a great sign-off to a sumptuous meal. Sunday lunches are of the large, traditional variety and the only problem with them is usually finding a table. You can’t book at the Morgan so it’s always worth getting there early to secure a table. For a long time it was the only gastro pub in spitting distance but the Lord Tredegar round the corner has just been re-furbed from an old geezers’ pub to a similar proposition. The area can cope with two of them so the competition should keep both on their toes!
