“Great food, relaxed atmos, local gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

This pub is very close to my house and I’ve visited frequently over the years. Despite being a fairly trendy pub and attracting a Shoreditch-type crowd it does have a range of ages mixing happily. Drink prices are on a par with all London prices (e.g. expensive) but the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is good and relaxed. Food is worth travelling for – some reviewers have noted below that it is expensive and it is on the pricey side but the quality is excellent. Short, changing menus mean that there’s usually something new to try and the attention to delicate flavouring is particularly good. Fish dishes are particularly strong and there’s always a steak on the menu. On the dessert menu I’ve never got past the rum and chocolate truffles which are gorgeous and a great sign-off to a sumptuous meal. Sunday lunches are of the large, traditional variety and the only problem with them is usually finding a table. You can’t book at the Morgan so it’s always worth getting there early to secure a table. For a long time it was the only gastro pub in spitting distance but the Lord Tredegar round the corner has just been re-furbed from an old geezers’ pub to a similar proposition. The area can cope with two of them so the competition should keep both on their toes!

“OVER ZEALOUS and over RATED”

Visited on 2 separate occasions. NEGATIVE on both, alas. Overpriced GROG and bush tucker.

And if you are disabled...DO NOT GO!

“Consistently good, it is worth looking forward to a visit here.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

I tend to come here as a monthly treat for myself, and to enjoy a decent Sunday lunch.
I always find the staff extremely friendly, pleasant and professional. They know their menu and their wines, and will offer advice if asked. The menu always has something different on, and I have never been disappointed by what I have chosen. For sure, the Roast Beef with a varied selection of vegetables is the best Sunday lunch plate I have ever had in London, and for this reason alone, it is well worth seeking out this delightful gastro pub in Bow, not far from Mile End tube station. Perhaps I shall try them for an evening, but for the time being, I revel in the Sunday lunchtime atmosphere and food of this place. It gets busy quickly, so my advice would be to get there for 1230 on a Sunday to avoid disappointment. It isn't cheap, but certainly delivers on value for money. You can book a table, but only for 5 people or more.

“Perfect Sunday lunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

Great gastro-pub tucked away down a quiet street in East London.

Good selection of wines and beers (including guest ales), great food, great service and not overly busy. No screaming kids either and they pug the tennis on the TV!

Definitely going back. Hope I've not jinxed it now...

“Overpriced below average Sunday lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013 via mobile

Service was good and staff friendly but the meals were overpriced for what they are. Not a very good roast dinner. It was very busy so loads of people must like it.
