“Pre-theatre meal was tasty and good value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

My sister and I chose this restaurant after looking at reviews here on TA and in guidebooks. We ate early and chose the Pre-theatre special. Food was tasty, service was good. It was a decent meal and good value since we got the special.

“Best steak outside of USA !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

We ate on Saturday the 12th January. It is due to close for a 6 week refurb programme.

We started by having a drink in the cocktail bar which was all very civilised and a perfect start to the evening.

We were shown to our table on time , we had a table with a view of the Thames and bridge. Which at night was really good.

This was our Ruby wedding celebration "couples" dinner and we wanted something to remember.

We had starters mine was the seafood spaggetti which was good value.

But it was the steak we reallt went to this restaurant for. I went for the 14oz New York Strip and my wife the 10oz of the same cut. Both were excellent and I have to say the best we have had outside of visiting steakhouses in the US. Pity is that you have to order sides since the plate only comes with the steak. But that is my only small whinge.

Price was a total of £175 for us two but boy was it worth it.

Would love to re visit when refurb complete.

“Good Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

Very good food but very expensive. Will not be re-visiting.
Service was a bit slow, may have been quicker if we went for the pre-theatre menu.

“Much better than recent reviews suggest though pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

We went to Christopher's for a pre-theatre meal on a Saturday evening. Recent comments suggest otherwise but the room was warm, the staff very attentive and we were not rushed at all. In fact we were almost late for the theatre as we were enjoying ourselves so much (until the bill arrived). We had the perfect table in the bay window but that might be because they knew it was my wife's birthday.
We both had New York strip-loin steaks. Great taste and cooked very well but didn't quite match the amazing quality we have experienced in Canada ( a difficult standard to match). Pity they didn't have any jacket potatoes with chives, bacon and sour cream to go with it. That would have made our day.

Deserts were fine and included a single candle for my wife's birthday.

The now common 12.5% service charge was added to the bill and was certainly deserved but the bill for a la carte eating was rather expensive. Maybe we should have stuck to the pre theatre set price menu. At the price charged they could have included a glass of birthday champagne!

“Knackered”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Well past it's best before date, overpriced, underwhelmed on both food and service, freezing cold upstairs room with only four tables occupied. Thank goodnes a new consortium is planning to restore it to some former glory.
