Description: Since 1916 and tucked away in the pedestrianised Swallow Street, just off London's bustling Piccadilly Circus, Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill restaurant is run by the Michelin-starred Chef Richard Corrigan. The handsomely cut masculine dark woods and crisp white tablecloths ooze charm; and the air of traditional, polished and perfected Britishness matches one of the best seafood finds in town. Start off by comparing a selection of rock and native oysters (for which Bentley's is justifiably famous) and move on to a marine-inspired take on beef Wellington with monkfish with cep duxelle wrapped in pastry. To go here and not sample the cracking fresh seafood would be somewhat akin to going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower. That said, when the sun is shining, the terrace is perfect for a long lazy lunch or enjoy the Best of British meat in the William Morris inspired Grill & Rib Rooms above. Bentley's is famous not only for it's colourful 97 year old history but also for it's private dining rooms the 'Crustacea' 14people and also the 'Jameson' room that holds up to 60 people email private dining directly.

“My favourite place to eat for a treat :-)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

For a special treat this place is great. I love the oldie worldie, traditional feel of the Bar and Grill. The food is stunning (Fish pie is the best thing ever!!!)
The Grill (upstairs) is more formal and the Bar (downstairs) is more relaxed and can be less intimate if busy as you do sit quite closey to the next table.

“Stuffy and plain”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Food was plain and the atmosphere was quite stuffy. It wasn't either chic or elegant. It just felt a bit.. old. Nothing special and a tad boring.

We are disappointed, that you didn’t enjoy your experience, you are correct at saying that the food is simple, it has always been our aim to deliver fresh, wild fish and oysters of the highest quality without messing around with the produce. I do also accept that our deco revival interiors are not to everyone’s taste but are meticulously updated to reflect this Grand Dame's 97year history. We hope you reflect on the visit in a different light.

“For special occasions, top quality, but really worth the price?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013 via mobile

For special occasions, top quality, but really worth the price? Maybe overpriced...but you are in Piccadilly and somehow you pay that. Good for a special night or to impress customers. I had the stuffed squids, delicious. Starter+main+dessert+some whine...you easily get to 90£ per person...

“Special Evening Out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Went to Bentley's with my husband for his birthday as a treat. Greeted at the door and our coats were taken. Lovely decor in the restaurant. Staff very friendly and attentive. They also accommodated for my dietary problems and provided gluten free bread. Beautiful food we particularly enjoyed the fish dishes we had picked. We would go there again.

“Great for a special occasion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

Took my girlfriend there for a surprise anniversary dinner, and we weren't disappointed.

Beautiful surroundings, the ambience is second to none. The waiters and team there are spot on, never letting your glass even get to half empty before offering a new one, or top up if you have a bottle!

Food was, well, superb, the Seafood Bisque was divine and the Smoke Salmon was very tender. The other half had scallops and squid for main, which she wouldn't share as it was that nice, but assured me that it was amazing. I personally had the royal fish pie, which was again excellent.

We were presented with two free glasses of dessert wine as a happy anniversary gift, which accompanied well the ice cream and creme brûlée that was devoured!
