“Excellent South Indian vegetarian, exceptional value, friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

A great neighborhood restaurant. Food not as high-style as Woodlands but, considering the prices, really exceptional value, Don't waste your time on poppadoms and non-South Indian items; stick to the excellent specialties, the dosas, etc. Having said that, the onion bhaji and samosa are among the best ever eaten.

“Excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2014

Not being a vegetarian myself I was a smidge sceptical but i have to say lovely food. The chef knows what he is doing, it is authentic indian food. You may be surprised if you haven't had proper indian food. The waiters are always great and service is excellent. Very good value too. Win, win, win I would say. Perfect for a set lunch under a fiver.

“The best reason you could have to give up eating meat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

We had a fantastic meal here last night for Valentine's Day, and we couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate the occasion. My girlfriend and I have only recently become strict vegetarians (having followed quite a vegetable-heavy diet before), and the meals we had reminded us exactly why we'd made the choice - and also that you don't have to compromise on taste or variety! We had the lentil and rice pizza-dish to start, along with dal soup, samosas and chapathis, and we were already giving the food overtures. For mains we had the brendal bhajee and the paneer dosa, and both were more incredible still - especially the dosa. We didn't think we had any room left after this, but the thing is with vegetarian Indian food (unlike the meat-based dishes), is that you don't feel too full for very long, so we managed a delicious mango sorbet for dessert as well! This rounded off a great experience, with excellent service by Vishnu (the waiter, not the deity) and a lovely day, and the only possible complaint I could have is that all the tables were very close together, so it was hard to get in and out of your seat. But apart from that small detail, two thumbs-up! Highly recommended, and we'll definitely be checking out the other Sagar restaurants in Covent Garden and Fitzrovia in the future. Vegie all the way, and here's why!

“Good food, wish it was busier!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2014

I love South Indian food and it's a great way to eat slightly more healthily than the traditional curry. Try a thali, bhel puri or masala dosa with a lassi rather than lager to accompany it. Sagar is good, slightly pricey for what it is, and quite quiet when I go in midweek. They could really do with a bit more buzz in the room though, so please get down there and perk it up a bit!

“One of the few south Indian restaurants worth a visit in London”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014 via mobile

There are a bunch of Sagar restaurants in India and many are part of a chain which is very good. So, we were eager to try this restaurant.
It certainly delivered. The service was friendly and professional. The food was enjoyable and tasty. We had a large selection of dishes including dosas, idli, vada, uttapam and pani puri. The paper dosas are massive and very good but a little oily.
Highly recommended.
The ambiance isn't great for formal meals but a must for a foodie.
