Description: Moti Mahal is the chic London outpost of the celebrated Delhi restaurant which opened in 1959. 'An unexpected delight' (Hardens Guide), Inspired by the culinary roots of India, particularly along the famed Grand Trunk Road, Chef Anirudh Arora brings you time-honoured dishes and recipes. By accentuating new tastes and flavours from India's richly woven history, the new menu at Moti Mahal is a feast for the senses. A perfect setting, with curved glass-fronted kitchen and gleaming copper bar, and attentive service will transform your meal in a memorable experience, and Moti Mahal is also 'perfect before a show' (Zagat).

“If you like Indian food you must go to moti mahal!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Had a great meal here, loved the food (& cocktails) - delicious and tasty modern Indian food beautifully served and in a good location in central London.
Make sure you ask for a table upstairs as we sat downstairs which was ok but not as nice as the upstairs room. The menu is a bit convoluted.... doing the voyage around India thing, and we didn't have time to read it all (it's a book!) as we were chatting too much, so we just plunged in and ordered - as a consequence we didn't know why portion size to expect as it all seemed random, but that didn't matter - it was all delicious, fragrant and beautifully presented.

Highly recommended and will definitely come back.

“Fantastic Food but the service could be warmer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

We ate here on Saturday and took advantage of the offer we saw on Top Table of two courses for £19 which includes a cocktail. We were sat down immediately by a lady who was polite but I wouldn't call her friendly. To get the deal you had to be there before 6.30 which we were, but be warned, if the deal is running, you have to ask for the menus or you will only be given the standard versions..

Now for the food...We chose one fish and one chick starter and a lamb rogan and a chicken tikka main. However, to our surprise the first course to arrive was a complimentary platter of salad with dried spices. It was really nice and refreshing on a hot day. We then had our starters which were lovely and tasty but while the chicken was generous, the fish was not. The mains were equally delicious and were served with 2 lovely soft naan and a vegetable side dish. We like rice with our curry so had also ordered an additional bowl of baked saffron rice (£5).

We really enjoyed the exceptional food but would suggest they warm up the hosting a little as it is the cold service that lets the experience down.

Couple of watch outs.. if you ask for water, you'll be offered bottled but ask for tap if that is what you want. Also, service charge is automatically added (which is probably why there's little motivation to do better in this area).

“Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

As a consequence of the negative reviews, we hesitated to go to Moti Mahal. Some of these reviews are however very unreasonable: quality of the food is outstanding, flavours are special, service is friendly, and to London standards price-quality is good. We had the Awadh tasting menu and there was no space left (for one of the amazing desserts), the portions were generous.

“Delicious food, small portions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

My friend and I got the eggplant starter, chicken tandoori trio and lamb curry. Everything was delicious but the portions were small so I thought it was overpriced. We had to pay for the rice because it didnt come with the lamb curry- I've never heard of not getting rice free with the curry. Nice atmosphere though and right near Covent Garden.
