Description: Located in the heart of Kensington opposite Hyde Park, the grand building that houses Zaika of Kensington dates back to 1884/5 having been built for the London and County Bank to the designs of local architect Alfred Williams. The Building is late-Gothic style and has retained many original architectural features including the carved, high ceilings and double-height windows. Opened in 1999, Zaika of Kensington is one of the few Indian restaurants to hold two prestigious AA rosettes. The name Zaika translates quite literally as sophisticated flavours and this is the ethos behind the innovative menu. With an emphasis on refined, creative and contemporary Indian cuisine, the menu incorporates traditional classic favourites with previously unseen menus. The Tamarind Collection welcomed Zaika of Kensington to its group in November 2012 as it became the fourth name in the portfolio, joining Tamarind of Mayfair, Imli Street in Soho and the youngest sister restaurant, Tamarind of London in Orange County, California. Following the acquisition, Zaika of Kensington continues to incorporate traditional, classic dishes offering refined, creative and contemporary Indian cuisine. Head chef Navin Prasad has join Tamarind Collection since the acquisition of Zaika, accepted as one of the country's leading new wave of Indian chefs, Navin's dishes have been praised as an education for the palate, focused on delivering the very best dining experience. Zaika of Kensington's kitchen runs under the team of Navin Prasad and Director Cuisine & Executive Chef of Tamarind Collection, Alfred Prasad. Alfred has gained industry and public recognition for his cuisine, at 29, Alfred was the youngest Indian chef to receive a Michelin star, an honour, which put him firmly on the world's culinary map.

“outstanding Indian fusion food for a special occasion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

I was taken here for my birthday (having never heard of the restaurant) after a recommendation from my wife's boss.
We had the tasting menu - there is a meat and a vegetarian one) with accompanying wines for £85 each. 7 courses, with many outstanding dishes, notably cauliflower soup, scallop and squid, lamb, vegetable dumplings, and great (albeit not in the least Indian) desserts.

The building is a converted bank- wood pannelled and a little austere, but beautifully decorated to add warmth. Service is impeccable.

“Excellent food and sevice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

Four of us opted for the taster menu: artichoke pakora, dreamy cauliflower soup with a potato lollipop, parmesan panko crusted scallop with chilli squid, tandoori chicken supreme with rice cake, lamp rump with quinoa pilau, chocolate silk with coconut jamuns and screwdriver sorbet!!! The accompanying wines were very complimentary. Food was excellent- service was faultless. This was our second visit and it wont be our last!

“Best Indian Food and Service in London”

My family loves to dine at Zaika when in London. Friendly, helpful and truly welcoming staff. Very expensive--but worth the lovely experience.

“Divine flavors!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013 via mobile

The most wonderful Indian dishes served by an amiable staff. The hostess was welcoming and friendly. Certainly the most welcoming we have encountered in London. Servers helped us pick appropriate dishes and we enjoyed every dish to the last drop. Divine!!

“Ripped off”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

We dined at Zaika last night under its London Restaurant Fortnight promotion. I have dined at this restaurant several times before & so know it is both tasty & reasonably expensive, though I wasn't prepared for the rip-off we encountered. There was no choice of dishes on offer, and I was only offered a veg starter as an alternative to the fish starter as I am allergic to fish - the dish comprised two small disintegrating fried potato cakes! The main dish was so small, my husband asked me if the objective of restaurant fortnight is to get customers to try more than one restaurant in one evening...Sorry Zaika, I feel so ripped off by this "cheap" dinner stunt that I shall not be returning.
