Description: The Light House opened in 1999 to great critical acclaim and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Now well established as a friendly, neighbourhood restaurant with a modern, international menu and an inspiring selection of wines. The friendly, professional service contributes to its well deserved reputation as one on of the best places to eat in South West London. We now have air-conditioned dining too!

“Just another example of mediocrity rewarded.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

Visited this restaurant on a busy Saturday night for a birthday party.

The good points:

Nice decor, clean, good lighting.

The average points:

The food is average/ok but far far too expensive for what it is. Portion sizes are tiny and my food was warm not hot (clearly a victim of a busy night). Alas this seems to be the norm everywhere nowadays in a bid to get as many tables as possible through. My starter was the Pate and 2 tiny bits of crusty bread plus pate straight from the packet in sainsburys...I would value at £2. This starter is nearly £10!

Drinks are expensive too.

Bad Points:

1 toilet? for everyone?
Service is sloooowwwww. We arrived at 7pm, we left at 22:40. Do not expect to be in a out in a hurry.

Summary:

I rate this experience average because it is another example of dining out where you are paying through the nose for a distinctly average experience. I cannot blame this restaurant exclusively because most places suffer the same.

I went home hungry and skint.

“A perfect wedding lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We chose The LightHouse to hold a post wedding ceremony lunch for our friends & family and were very happy with our decision. Since we were a fairly small informal group (~30 guests) we decided not to hire out the entire restaurant, instead going with the manager's suggestion of arranging a group of 3 large tables at the rear of the dining area. While there were a few other diners in the front of the restaurant, this was no issue for us, since we were there on a Friday lunchtime when it was not too busy. Their dining menu changes frequently (weekly I think) to follow the seasonal variations of best produce, and together with recommendations from the manager, we used that as the basis for putting together a fixed price 3 course menu with 3 options for each course. On the day, the food was absolutely fabulous, being highly praised by all our guests afterwards as perhaps the best wedding reception food they'd had. The waiting staff were also very friendly and accommodating to us and generally ensured everything went smoothly throughout our visit. We look forward to continuing to visit the restaurant (and its little brother The LightHouse Cafe in the Village) in the future.

“A favourite”

Never failingly excellent and always a pleasure. Great food and great service with just the right amount of attention whether in the middle of a busy service or when you just squeeze in at the end of an evening.

“A most enjoyable lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

My husband and I had lunch at this restaurant with a couple of friends earlier this week, and it was really excellent. We all chose from the fixed price menu of the day, which offered 3 choices for starters, 3 for main course and at least 3 for puddings. I had the baked salmon with bubble and squeak, and hollandaise sauce; the salmon was perfectly cooked, and the sauce and the bubble and squeak worked surprisingly well with it. Three of us then had the roast chicken in a mustard sauce, with chunky chips, and we all agreed this was very tasty indeed. A couple of us had puddings - the choocolate brownie with ice cream was particularly good. We shared a bottle of wine between us, and a couple of us had coffee. The meal came to about £25 per head, which seemed very reasonable. We pointed out to the proprietor that they had forgotten to include a couple of drinks in the bill, but they generously let us have them on the house.

A particular advantage of this restaurant is that not only has it just been refurbished and looks smart, but something has been done to absorb the noise from people talking in the restaurant (which used to be a bit of a problem). It was now very easy to hold a conversation over the lunch table, which helped to make it all the more relaxing an occasion.

We will certainly be returning.

“Delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

Repeating visits leave me happy. The decor is is "light" just with the right touch, service is efficient with smiling staff.
Bread is home made and very nice. We have tried many of their dishes....last night was roast beetroot and goat cheese with caramelised nuts and blood orange, very delicate yet persistent taste, some mussels were taken as a starter as well, meaty and tasty all the same. The diner cold have stopped there! Mains were good with a peasant in red wine sauce very decently prepared (the sides were great and melted very appropriately with the sauce), my wife had some vegetarian dish which obviously was tasty enough for me not to get a chance to taste it!
The light, definitely top of the league in Wimbledon!
