“A taste of Launceston Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

Set in a wonderful location, we walked round the block as we were a little early for our table, the neighbourhood is well worth a look. On to the restaurant, where our jackets and shopping was taken - no fuss. Our table, was tucked away slightly and a little dark, as the decor is dark grey and we didn't benefit from any natural daylight.

The waiting staff were excellent very courteous and knowledgeable of the menu. We went for the taster menu with wine pairing, as the selection looked varied and interesting. Every course was so enjoyable, the taste had such a depth of flavour and I can only describe it all "as out of this world".

To pick some highlights is so difficult as there are so so many, but here we go - warm cauliflower mousse; spring vegetable salad (which sounds ordinary but is anything but); the apple variations with the scallops; horseradish ice cream which came with the mackerel; the lobster; the pork belly with the popcorn crackling; the lemon confit and granite; with the pure pistachio soufflé for me being the icing on the cake!

The accompanying wines were well balanced and complimented the food perfectly, the only slight criticism was we would have liked the sommelier to have not only described the wine, but why it had been chosen to go with that particular course.

Overall the evening was perfect. Tim Allen deserves the mitchelin star recently awarded, and this resturant comes highly recomended.

“Enjoyable afternoon lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

We enjoyed the tasting menu with wine and apart from a very slightly underdone scallop couldn't fault it. The service was wonderful and the wines matched perfectly. Having never eaten in a Michelin star restaurant before we were unsure what to expect but would recommend as a lovely place to go for a special occasion.

“Excellent food & service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

There initially being some mix up with the reservation (our fault!) we were accommodated superbly. We were offered (a group of 6) an excellent table but 'limited' to the tasting menu. I say limited, but it wasn't really limited at all.....and was perfectly accompanied by the wine pairing. Staff were very knowledgeable and both the food & wine were very well presented & 'introduced'.

“Better than last time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

We last visited over a year ago, but this time the experience was even better. They seemed to have refined their service, and improved further some of the dishes.

We order the tasting menu, and everything was superb. The main course lobster was excellent. We added an extra course from the main menu - our favourite duck with duck egg, and it was even better then we remembered. Wine pairings were excellent.

I special thank you to the assistant manager, Martin, for the attentive but unobtrusive service.

“Very special”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013 via mobile

The restaurant is in a lovely location just behind Gloucester Road. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Lovely wine list with good value as well as top priced wines: there is even a good choice of good wines by the glass. We were there at lunchtime and mixed between the two set menus. Everyone was happy with their choices and really enjoyed everything. Delightful amuse-bouches served before the meal. Arrived at 12.45 and left around 4.00 so not rushed at all.

The only criticism was the coffee - the espresso had a nasty burnt flavour, but when replaced by filter coffee was excellent. For that reason not 5 star.

Highlights - everything apart from the coffee
