I have been going to the Lahore Kebab House for over 20 years. It used to be a scruffy cafe with no menu and large tables where you sat with whoever was there - BUT the food was wonderful ...and boy was it hot. There was no way of knowing how hot it would come - one meal my husband and I remember was when we really couldn't eat the food, we just downed jug after jug of water.
Over the years I have seen it, the chilli heat, and its clientele change, however what has remained constant is the wonderful authentic flavours.
Personally I don't like the noise level and always opt to sit downstairs where it is (fractionally) quieter, however I put up with this just to taste the food.
I am fed up with the anglicisation of every curry house in London and more recently the term 'modern Indian cuisine' has crept in - I have found out that this means 'forget heat, flavour and all the other wonderful things about Indian/Pakistani cuisine'; it is akin to eating chicken stew rather than chicken curry! And the ubiquitous Masala sauce that you get despite whatever you order (they just chuck something extra into it to make it seem a different dish) is obscene - they must be laughing up their sleeves....go to the Lahore and taste what you are missing!
