I have been to Aurora twice now and can say it is one of my favourite places to eat in London. So often in the shadow of the cramped Andrew Edmunds opposite, Aurora is a cute, cosy, romantic and thoroughly British bistro that just sets the right tone for a romantic meal whatever the season. I do believe that it tops the more illustrious restaurant across the road.
With only a handful of tables plus a small courtyard out the back, the setting for Aurora is very much designed for couples. The paper tablecloths and higgledy-piggledy tables and chairs add to a relaxed and cosy atmosphere without the constricts of having to think that you are sat down to a formal meal. The service is attentive and polite without being overbearing and the wine list is extensive without being too expensive. The food itself is also a highlight with the restaurant having a seasonal menu with a few favourites (I had a delicious 'posh' steak and chips last time I was there) to food which has a few nods towards French cooking. Overall, you will get something that is simple and tasty and far from being pretentious or toyed around with.
I would heartily recommend Aurora for those looking for a couples night out. It's affordable, not at all stuffy and just sets the right, relaxed tone for an evening.
