“Not the greatest ever, but ticks so many boxes for me”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

I have been to Aurora twice now and can say it is one of my favourite places to eat in London. So often in the shadow of the cramped Andrew Edmunds opposite, Aurora is a cute, cosy, romantic and thoroughly British bistro that just sets the right tone for a romantic meal whatever the season. I do believe that it tops the more illustrious restaurant across the road.

With only a handful of tables plus a small courtyard out the back, the setting for Aurora is very much designed for couples. The paper tablecloths and higgledy-piggledy tables and chairs add to a relaxed and cosy atmosphere without the constricts of having to think that you are sat down to a formal meal. The service is attentive and polite without being overbearing and the wine list is extensive without being too expensive. The food itself is also a highlight with the restaurant having a seasonal menu with a few favourites (I had a delicious 'posh' steak and chips last time I was there) to food which has a few nods towards French cooking. Overall, you will get something that is simple and tasty and far from being pretentious or toyed around with.

I would heartily recommend Aurora for those looking for a couples night out. It's affordable, not at all stuffy and just sets the right, relaxed tone for an evening.

“Disappointing food and service, nothing special”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

Doesn't hold a candle to the restaurant opposite, sadly the same prices. Poor quality food, overcooked steak, greasy chips and soggy veg.

“An amazing place ,a very pleasant surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

We went her for a friends birthday party in the private dining room on Nov 30th .
We had an excellent time , the staff were extremely friendly and the food was perfect. It was warm and cosy and the perfect place for a private 'get together' . We will most certainly be going here again next time we are in London. Thank you for a great evening everyone at Aurora.

“A lovely little discovery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012 via mobile

This is one of those hidden gems you'll be delighted to discover. It's compact, a bit quirky - brown paper table coverings - but undeniably cosy. The food is delicious, the service - just the right balance of relaxed efficiency. The only negative was the loo - a bit basic, but clean nonetheless.

“Good alternative to the lovely Andrew Edmunds opposite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

Was heading to AE tho unsurprisingly could not get a table on a Saturday night and this place looked inviting. They had a table but only on the basis that we would vacate at nine. The couple on the next table were clearly a bit miffed when a similar requirement was implemented for them tho to be fair the staff seemed to do it with reasonable grace and consideration. In fact the food (lemon sole) was lovely and the service attentive yet humorous and unstuffy. Altogether a v good alternative to the institution opposite in somewhat more spacious and pleasant surroundings.
