“One night stay March 2013”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

A one night stay over in London at a very competitive price. As a group of 4 adults and 3 children was finding it very difficult to find suitable accommodation. London city hotel offered us a triple family bedroom and one of their apartments. The hotel bedroom was perfect, clean and comfortable. The apartment was even better and just what we needed with a smaller child. Couldn't recommend it enough and would definitely come back. Thank you

Unfortunately, all the great things about this hotel lost their value when it came to the bed, where I could hardly sleep but my husband just couldn't, no matter how tired we were. First the good things: clean, great location - right next to Borough station; even better staff - super helpful and friendly receptionist. Excellent shower- lots of pressure and space. Room size Ok for London standards.

But after 11+ hours flying, a very cold afternoon walking around, and the familiar unwelcome jet lag, all you want to do is sleep. And when the bed is all bumpy, uneven, too sunk in some places and too hard in others - unmistakenly OLD, nothing else matters. My husband spent a sleepless night. I woke up all sore.

Our final evaluation: Won't go back. A shame because price was reasonable and all else pointed towards a good choice for our recurrent trips to London :(

Thank you for all the positive comments you had about our Hotel and we are sorry to hear that you did not find our bed comfortable. We often have comments from people saying our beds are comfortable and some people have asked for the manufacturer so that they can order it at home!

If you can spare the time then please email me directly with your room number or full name. I would like to personally investigate this further and take a look at the bed you slept in.

Kind regards,
Claudia

Amazingly situated on the door step of Borough tube station and a five minute walk from the fantastic Borough Markets- literally on the doorstep also of the London Bridge, London Tower & the London Tower Bridge. We went over the London Tower Bridge at night which was simply magical. If you like indian food try 'The spice Lounge' which is a 3 minute walk towards the London Bridge from 'London City Hotel' We had a 2 course meal with drinks for £33- brilliant! We picked this hotel as it was budget cost and close to liverpool Street Station (where we were travelling to the following day) We were pleasantly surprised by its surroundings- Also if you are a coffee lover visit Monmouth Coffee downstairs or down by the market- mmm, delicious. Also GO TO the Borough markets- we are well travelled and this is the best market we have ever been too. A big thank you to the very friendly staff who let us keep our bags at the hostel till 3pm after checking out which aloud us to do more sight seeing before catching our train to Colchester. Thanks London City Hotel - Finally if you want a hotel on a budget cost I highly recommend this hotel. Its very basic but also very clean and very friendly- we will be sure to come again when visiting London. lots of love Vicky & Tom from Warrington x x

This hotel has a range of room types and I have stayed in the single (shared en-suite) and double with en-suite rooms. The former offers good value for money – the latter is also quite good. My room was newly built – behind the street level café – which serves a spectacular breakfast. For the Borough Market – London Bridge part of town – this place gives great access. I was working at the etc conference venue – and this hotel is close by.

Right next door to Borough underground, this hotel makes commuting easy.

I would recommend it for value and convenience – but it is not high end luxury.

Room Tip: Go for the double en-suite rooms - and be prepared for stairs.

If you are a traveler within a budget and you're in London for Business or for Pleasure, you might be looking for this Hotel. I have seen 3 star Hotels with more and better facilities so it's not what I was expecting to see in a 3-star hotel.
The best reason to choose this hotel for your stay is the location. It's exactly above the Borough Tube station and a few stops away to all major sights of London. The local area is full of nice Pubs and there's a deli & Starbucks right across the street.
The double room is spacious enough with a nice bathroom. They clean your room every day.
The bed is a simple double bed-not king size, but confortable enough. In General I think most people would be satisfied by the quality of the double room.
The single room is a whole different thing though. It's super small and the bed is super-super small. I had to book the double room for just me.

The reception is always open and they seem willing to help you.

There's no elevator, so you have to climb up every time you're back but that's not so bad.

You have to pay for your wifi - 6 pounds / 24 hours. Since most Hotels offer free wifi, this is something they could change for the benefit of their clients.

So despite of their lack of facilities (elevator - free wifi - small single room) I think it's a decent choice for your base while you're exploring London.

Room Tip: I stayed 2 times in this Hotel. Staying in the double room is a whole different experience than stay...

Dear Thanos,

Thanks for your review.

We are pleased that you appreciated the cleanliness of the room, our staff team pride themselves on keeping the rooms very clean and ensuring the rooms are a comfortable place to rest.

Location wise, we are certainly as close to the tube station as possible, with less than 10 steps from the exit.

If you come to stay again then we have 4 new rooms on the ground floor, including single ensuites with large single beds.

Kind regards,
Claudia

Have just stayed here for 2 nights with my duaghter. Ideally situated for getting around London as it's right next to Borough tube station and bus stops are just across the road. Unfortunately we were on the third floor and there is no lift, but as we were out all the time we only had to climb them once a day!! The room was very clean and warm and the bathroom and shower cubicle very clean. The only thing lacking was a full length mirror in the room as there was only a small bathroom mirror.
All in all an excellent place to stay if you're looking for a budget hotel in London.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back and it was really quiet considering the hotel is on a main road next to a...

Dear Carole,

Thanks very much for your review. I am pleased that you found the location and hotel a good place to stay whilst travelling with your daughter.

If you come to stay again and would prefer to not climb the stairs (although sounds like you did very well with this) then please do request one of our newly opened ground floor rooms.

Kind regards,
Claudia

My boyfriend and I chose this hotel to stay in mainly because of the good price and it's location. I was pleasantly surprised by the large bedroom and ensuite that greated us! The room was very spacious and tastefully decorated, the bed was extremely comfortable, the shower was huge and very powerful and there were lovely thick towels supplied too. The room was basic but spotlessly clean and modern. The location right beside the tube station was so convenient and there was surprisingly no problems with noise from the trains in the room. We only stayed for one night but I wish we could have stayed longer. It was a very enjoyable, relaxing stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel to all travellers.

Thank you for your lovely review and for staying with us.

We are really pleased that you wished you had stayed longer and will recommed us to other guests. Thank you for appreciating the thick towels, cleanliness and comfortable beds.

Despite our close proximity to the tube staion, less than 5 seconds walk, the tubes cannot be heard from the hotel.

We hope that you come back to visit again.

Kind regards,
Claudia
